Part Time LifeguardAssist with the supervision of swimming activities and ensure that policies, guidelines and safety procedures are followed.High School Diploma or GEDLifeguard, First Aid & CPR/AEDLifeguard Instructor (LGI) and Water Safety Instructor (WSI) preferredExperience in Lifeguard supervision preferredUse of technology pertaining to job functionsRecognize and respond to situations to prevent injuries from occurring.Ensure the safety of patrons by minimizing or eliminating hazardous situations or behaviors.Actively guard and scan the pool area at all times; refrain from socializing while guarding.Warn swimmers of improper activities or danger and enforce pool regulations and water safety policies.Administer first aid in the event of injury, rescues swimmers in distress or danger and administers CPR and/or artificial respiration, if necessary.Evaluate conditions for safety and initiates aquatics emergency action plan as required.Assist classes in fundamentals of swimming, as needed.Communicate and enforce all pool policies and rules in a personable and professional manner.Keep abreast of on-site protocols, operational procedures, and safety policies.Assist and enforce the rules, administration regulations, state/local policy as well as the American Red Cross guidelines.Assist the supervisor or designee in the organization of all aquatic events.Orient the pool staff and patrons to special safety needs required for swimming activity equipment.Prepare incident reports for supervisor or designee.Communicates positively and effectively with students, administrators, coaches, community members and parents.Performs other tasks and assume other responsibilities as may be assigned by supervisor.The employee must be able to pass swimming skill and endurance tests that require the following: swim 50 yd. freestyle; swim 100 yd. freestyle; swim 200 yd. freestyle; swim 60 ft. underwater without breaking the surface.The employee must be able to pass lifeguarding skills tests that require the following: swim 25 yd. with rescue tube, make contact and tow adult victim back to starting point. Swim 25yds. carrying 10 lb. brick in less than 1 minute and 40 seconds; swim 25yds. elem. back carrying a 10 lb. brick with both hands. Surface dive in 7 ft. of water and recover 10 lb. brick; and demonstrate proper techniques in leaving lifeguard stand, slipping into water, approaching 50 ft. to suspected spinal cord injury victim, returning victim to starting point.Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policy, procedures, and data; maintain emotional control under stress. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours. Some bending, lifting, and stooping while performing job related functions.Wage / Hour Status: Non ExemptRate of Pay: $13.00 / hour
