Part-Time LifeguardReports to: Aquatics DirectorPay Grade: Part-Time $11.00 per hourQualifications:To build a tradition of excellence, the PSJA Independent School District will foster a safe, caring and creative learning environment that inspires students to realize their full potential as they positively impact the world around them.Job Summary:This position is responsible for providing a safe environment for all pool patrons and swimmers in the pool and deck area.Education/Certification:High School Diploma or GED in English or current PSJA ISD high school studentQualifications:Current Red Cross Lifeguard Certification or ability to attain within 7 days of hire.Strong swimmerEffective interpersonal skillsExcellent oral and written communication skillsMinimum age requirement of sixteen yearsExperience:Lifeguard experience (preferred)Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate and acceptablePSJA Leadership Skills and Expectations:Positive Engagement:Welcomes staff, students, parents, and community as honored members at the district table - Scans Environment – Analyzes and applies understanding of internal organization and external environment to assess and respond to the district's future advancementManages change – Demonstrates courage, initiative, and perseverance in bringing about meaningful change to support the shared visionChampions solutions – Challenges the status quo by collaboratively exploring new and better ways of doing thingsAcknowledges outcomes – Creates a positive environment for growth by celebrating success and learning from failureTechnical Skills, Responsibilities, and Duties:In PSJA ISD, we hire individuals who demonstrate excellence in these technical areas as they lead others.Major Responsibilities and Duties:Uphold and adhere to safety rules.Prevent accidents through the enforcement of policies, regulations, and ordinances governing the conduct of persons using the swimming pool.Maintain discipline of swimmers by asking for assistance from the Head Lifeguard and/or Aquatics Director.Observe for accidents occurring in the water, on the deck, or on diving equipment.Enter the water to rescue persons in trouble, resuscitate swimmers who may need it, administer first aid to the injured, and call 911 for serious accident cases.Report definite or potential hazards and unsafe conditions to the Head Lifeguard and/or Aquatics Manager.Maintain an acceptable appearance at all times, with regard to both uniform and personal hygiene.Display professionalism, courtesy, and helpfulness to all pool patrons and fellow employees in the performance of duties.Keep abreast of innovative practices.Be adaptable and flexible in acceptance of changes in techniques and procedures.Maintain a professional level of confidentiality regarding all district matters.Support the goals and objectives of the district and follow district policies.Perform other duties as assigned.Clerical work as directedJanitorial duties as directedIt is the policy of the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD not to discriminate on the basis of sex, disability, race, color, religion, national origin or age.This document describes the general purpose and responsibilities assigned to this job and is not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties that may be assigned or skills that may be required.
