Part -Time School Crossing GuardTitle: Part -Time School Crossing GuardSalary Range: Starting Salary: $16.44 per HourDescription HERNANDO COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE AL NIENHUIS, SHERIFF JOB TITLE: PART TIME SCHOOL CROSSING GUARD BUREAU: LAW ENFORCEMENT OPERATIONS SUPERVISED BY: BUREAU COMMANDER OR DESIGNEE PAY GRADE: 99N CREATED: FLSA STATUS: NON – EXEMPT REVISED: 9/4/2024 CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS: Under the general supervision of School Resources Officer Lieutenant, provides supervision of pedestrian control at assigned post to ensure reasonable and orderly flow of pedestrian traffic and safety to the public. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Directs pedestrians at the assigned street or highway location and provides smooth traffic flow.Reports violations of traffic laws.Promotes positive public relations between the Sheriff's Office and the community.Reports to duty at designated times. Times may vary according to post location.Performs other duties as assigned by supervision.QUALIFICATIONS: A. Training and ExperienceHigh school diploma, GED or equivalent.B. Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge and/or ability to learn basic traffic laws.Knowledge and/or ability to safety procedures.Ability to work with minimal supervision.Skills in dealing effectively and courteously with students, coworkers, supervisors, deputies and the public.ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:Ability to communicate verbally.Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction).Acceptable hearing (with or without correction).Ability to stand for long periods of time.Ability to respond quickly if needed.
