Pathology Assistant OpportunityMercyOne Genesis is seeking a highly motivated Pathology Assistant to join our collaborative and well-established pathology team. This role plays a critical part in supporting diagnostic services through surgical pathology, working closely with board-certified pathologists in a high-quality, patient-focused environment.This is an excellent opportunity for a Pathology Assistant who enjoys a mix of grossing, and advanced laboratory procedures, with rare autopsy support in a collegial and team-oriented setting.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform gross examination and description of surgical specimensPrepare and submit tissue for light microscopy and special studiesCoordinate and obtain specimens for advanced testing (e.g., flow cytometry, cytogenetics, cultures, immunofluorescence, electron microscopy)Collaborate with pathologists to determine appropriate special techniques (e.g., tumor triage, frozen sections, toxicology, perfusion, etc.)Ensure accurate specimen accessioning and documentationObtain relevant clinical history and medical records for case reviewMaintain and follow surgical pathology protocolsEnsure proper maintenance of laboratory equipment and suppliesSupport organ/tissue procurement and research requests as neededMaintain compliance with regulatory standards and assist with CAP and Joint Commission inspectionsEnsure cleanliness and readiness of grossing suitesQualificationsMaster's degree from a NAACLS-accredited Pathology Assistant program requiredASCP certification (or eligible) preferredStrong knowledge of anatomic pathology techniques and proceduresExcellent organizational, communication, and documentation skillsAbility to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environmentWhy Join MercyOne Genesis?Join a supportive, experienced pathology teamDiverse case mix with opportunities to utilize a wide range of skillsStable health system with strong regional reputationLocated in the Quad Cities — offering a great balance of community feel and access to amenitiesCompetitive compensation and comprehensive benefits packageOur CommitmentRooted in our Mission and Core Values, we honor the dignity of every person and recognize the unique perspectives, experiences, and talents each colleague brings.
