nPatient Care Assistant (PCA) - Clinical Nursing Student - West Hospital

nJob Summary:

nThe Clinical Nursing Student provides direct patient care under the guidance of the Registered Nurse or designated healthcare professional in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and within the policies, procedures, and guidelines of Bon Secours Mercy Health. The Clinical Nursing Student role is designed to provide clinical experience and exposure through both job shadowing of the Registered Nurse (RN) and provision of care appropriate to scope and at the delegation of the RN.

nEssential Functions:

nUnder direction of the RN, supports the nurse in the application of the nursing process.

nnnWorks to develop critical thinking skills through collaboration with the RN to ensure quality patient care delivery

n

nnSeeks out educational opportunities related to nursing practice and critical thinking

n

nnProvides basic patient care to include, but not limited to, care and comfort, record vital signs, personal care and hygiene, and mobility, including unit based specialty duties.

n

nnActs as liaison between patient and nurse to report changes or concerns to nurse

n

nnProvides high level customer service to all patients, patient's family, visitors and all employees

n

nnProvides accurate, precise, timely documentation when applicable for patient care

n

nnParticipates in hand-off/report of pertinent information regarding patient and departmental needs upon arrival and when leaving

n

nnPerforms delegated tasks once competency has been validated

n

nnParticipates in patient data collection and documentation (i.e. vital signs, intake/output, change in patient condition)

n

nnPerforms basic patient hygiene and care related to activities of daily living - assisting with ambulation and patient mobility, feeding, hydration and nutrition and bowel and bladder elimination

n

nnUtilizes clinical technology as applicable

n

nnEscalates concerns appropriately through appropriate chain of command

n

n nEducation:

nnnHS/GED (required)

n

nnCurrently enrolled in a nursing program and has completed one clinical nursing course and one clinical rotation (required)

n

n nRequired Licensing & Certifications:

nnBLS (preferred)

n nExperience:

nnRecent experience in acute care and/or long term care facility (preferred)

n nSkills & Abilities:

nnnAbility to clearly communicate to other members of the healthcare team

n

nnAbility to understand and follow directions of healthcare team

n

nnKnowledge of patient and healthcare safety standards and regulations (i.e. falls, skin breakdown, suicide prevention, environment of care)

n

nnInfection prevention and transmission-based precautions

n

nnTeam dynamics

n

nnCompassionate, relationship-based approach in care activities

nnAccountability for completion of assigned tasks

n nTraining:

nnnMust have completed First Clinical Rotation as a Nursing Student
