Job description

Patrol DeputyThe Patrol Deputy performs skilled work to protect the lives and property of the citizens of Williams County. This position performs various law enforcement duties, such as patrolling assigned areas, enforcing laws, apprehending and interviewing violators, and responding to calls for assistance.Examples of DutiesThe intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents in this position. The duties and responsibilities described are not a comprehensive list and may change with or without notice. Incumbents must be able to perform the essential function of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.Provides safety and security to citizens in the community through law enforcement, patrol, civil process service, investigations, and other duties on an assigned shiftPatrols assigned areas, looking for illegal, hazardous, and suspicious activities and persons; provides backup assistance, scene security, and protection for regional emergency services personnelEnforces local, state, and federal laws and enforces local regulations and ordinances according to policies, procedures, and regulationsConducts traffic stops and investigates traffic accidents; assists victims and witnesses and investigates incidents as required; reports hazardous conditions and safety concernsResponds to emergency and non-emergency calls for service; interrogates and communicates with victims, witnesses, and suspects in cases; secures and documents crime scenes and property; identifies and collects evidence; takes criminal complaints from citizensArrests law violators; locates, pursues, and arrests criminal suspects; transports and processes prisoners and special custody cases; testifies in court; serves arrest and search warrantsAssists other Sheriff's Office staff, County departments, and federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies as neededAs assigned, serves civil process documents, warrants, legal notices, and subpoenasConducts community policing activities to help prevent crime, reduce fear of crime, and improve community relations; talks with business owners and other people in assigned areas, listens to concerns, and offers suggestions to improve safety and securityCompletes detailed reports and required technical paperworkMaintains patrol vehicles and equipment in clean and effective operating orderMay present education and information programs through community and school awareness projects; teaches and counsels residents on law enforcement activities, programs, and referral resourcesMaintains the integrity, professionalism, and ethical standards of the Sheriff's Office by assuring that all rules and regulations are followedMaintains confidentiality of non-public records and makes available all data and information deemed a public record by the North Dakota Century Code.Typical QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED equivalent AND one (1) year of satisfactory work experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experienceMust pass and maintain license requirements set by the North Dakota Peace Officer Standards and Training BoardMust possess a valid North Dakota Driver's License or equivalentMust pass a thorough background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol screeningTechnical certifications in CPR, First Aid, and specialized equipment are requiredSupplemental InformationWork is performed in both internal and external environments with exposure to inclement weather and varying temperatures; may be subject to physical harm such as dangerous vehicles, gunshots, and physical attacks; may be exposed to hazardous chemicals, drugs, and infectious diseasesMust maintain a level of physical fitness to meet Department standards; required to restrain persons physicallyMust be able to work in uniform during weekdays, weekends, and holidays on any assigned shiftCompensation: Starting pay is $33.16/hour and may vary Depending on qualifications, experience and training.Benefits: Williams County offers a generous benefit package including paid sick and vacation leave, fully paid health, dental, and vision insurance plan for single, single plus dependent, or family, term life insurance, long-term disability insurance, fully funded retirement benefits through the North Dakota Public Employee Retirement System, and more!
