Job description
Position Purpose:
The Patient Financial Services (PFS) Payment Poster is responsible for the accurate and timely posting, reconciliation, and management of all payments received within the NextGen Practice Management system. This position ensures the integrity of patient accounts receivable by processing electronic remittance advice (ERA835), EFT payments, lockbox transactions, patient payments, refunds, recoupments, contractual adjustments, and unapplied cash. The Payment Poster researches and resolves payment discrepancies and collaborates with internal departments to ensure accurate reimbursement and financial reporting. The role contributes directly to revenue cycle performance through effective cash management, reconciliation, and compliance with payer and organizational requirements.
Scope:
Supervision/delegation:
• Works independently within established revenue cycle policies.
• No supervisory responsibility.
• Maintain accurate financial records related to cash posting.
• Exercises sound judgment when researching posting discrepancies.
• Works with internal departments and external payers to resolve payment issues.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent; Associate degree preferred.
Minimum 1 - 3 years in a healthcare cash posting, payment posting, or medical billing experience. ERA/835 processing, EFTs, lockbox payments, and cash reconciliation, Nextgen Practice Management recommended but not required. Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, Managed Care, Commercial Insurance, ERAs, EFTs, and EOBs. Strong Excel, analytical, reconciliation and communication skills.
