nJob Description
nThe Payroll Accountant is responsible for reviewing, interpreting, and recording financial records.
nKey Responsibilities
nPayroll Emphasis
nnnPrepares, analyzes, and implements payroll transactions on a timely manner such as payments of hours worked, personal time off, employee benefits, application of benefit deductions.
n
nnPrepares and/or analyzes periodic payroll reports, payroll schedules, and payroll related journal entries using established policies, procedures, and guidelines on a timely manner.
n
nnMonitors federal, state, and local taxes, Social Security contributions, employee benefit contributions, garnishments, and other deductions to ensure accuracy of individual pay.
n
nnAnalyzes payroll reports, statements, records and making recommendations to improve payroll process.
n
nnPrepares and/or reviews the accuracy of payroll related journal entries and performs account reconciliation and analysis while ensuring supporting documentation is accurate and in compliance with company policies.
n
nnEvaluate and implement appropriate payroll policies and controls and payroll processing and system enhancements to increase efficiency.
n
nnPrepares audit schedules and assists/coordinates audit of accounting statements/reports.
n
nnCoordinates payroll matters with other departments, locations, and business units.
n
nnCoordinates with payroll service provider on issues affecting company payroll.
n
nnSupports other accounting functions i.e. A/P, A/R, etc.
n
nnReviewing project time to ensure accurate posting to projects.
n
nnReconciling cost data between project cost ledgers and accounting systems
n
nnDevelop, manage, and maintain cost controls and labor recaps in conjunction with the Project Manager and Project Superintendent
n
n nBillings and Accounts Payable Emphasis
nnnReview all invoices, employee expense statements, and subcontracts for appropriate documentation and approval prior to payment.
n
nnReview, process & balance Owner Billings
n
nn1099 maintenance
n
nnRespond to all vendor & jobsite inquiries.
n
nnReconcile vendor statements, research, and correct discrepancies.
n
nnAssist in month end closing.
n
nnMaintain files and documentation thoroughly and accurately, in accordance with company policy and accepted accounting practices.
n
nnAssist with other projects as needed.
n
n nQualifications
nnnMust be well organized and a self-starter.
n
nnPossess strong organizational and time management skills.
n
nnStrong problem-solving skills, basic accounting principles knowledge, documentation skills, research and resolution skills, data analysis and multi-tasking skills
n
nnAbility to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high-volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness Ability to interact with employees and vendors in a professional manner.
n
nnAbility to perform mathematical computations such as percentages, fractions, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division quickly and accurately.
n
nnStrong communication skills

nnMay require specific badging or other security requirements, which may require the Company, Owner, or third party to conduct a criminal or other background check.

nnComputer software - Microsoft Office Suite

n nKnowledge:
nnnConstruction accounting
n
nnPrinciples of basic report preparation

nnPrinciples and procedures of financial record keeping and reporting.

nnMust be willing to work 40 hours per week and overtime as needed to meet deadlines.
n
n nPreferred Qualifications:
nnnBusiness or Accounting degree.
n
nn2+ years of applicable experience.
n
nnCollege Courses in accounting.
n
n nPhysical Requirements

n nCompensation Range (Colorado Only)
nHourly Rate: $22.00 - $30.00 USD
nEducation
nnBusiness or Accounting degree, preferred.

nHensel Phelps provides generous benefits for our salaried employees. This position is eligible for company paid medical insurance, life insurance, accidental death & dismemberment, long-term disability, 401(K) retirement plan, health savings account (HSA) (HSA not available in Hawaii), and our employee assistance program (EAP). It also is eligible for employee paid enrollment in vision and dental insurance. Hensel Phelps also believes in the importance of taking time to recharge. As a result, salaried employees are eligible for paid time off beginning upon hire. Salaried positions (project engineers and above) participate in an annual bonus plan, subject to company and employee performance. Salaried employees (this is all salaried employees) are also eligible for a company cell phone or cell phone allowance in accordance with company policy. Further, salaried employees (project engineers and above) also receive either a vehicle or vehicle allowance in accordance with Hensel Phelps' policies. Based on position location, a cost of living adjustment (COLA) may also be included (subject to periodic review and adjustment).
