Payroll & Accounting Ops. SpecialistThe Payroll & Accounting Ops Specialist will support the financial operations of Babel Street by executing payroll processes and assisting with broader accounting operations. This role reports to the Accounting Operations Manager and is responsible for ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing across U.S. and International operations, and providing operational accounting support across key accounting functions including billing and collections, accounts payable and payments, cash management, tax and other areas. This position requires a detail-oriented, highly responsible, committed and dependable professional with strong payroll and foundational accounting knowledge, capable of managing day-to-day payroll activities and supporting the functions noted above. Babel Street is headquartered in Reston, Virginia, with regional offices in Boston, MA and Cleveland, OH, and international offices in Australia, Canada, Israel, Japan, and the U.K.Responsibilities:Execute and support end-to-end global payroll processing for a dynamic, expanding, multi-entity and multi-state company with approximately 250 worldwide employeesPrepare U.S. semi-monthly payrolls, and special payrolls as needed, for exempt and non-exempt employees, salaried and hourly employees, ensuring accuracy and timelinessCoordinate with third-party payroll providers for U.S. and five International payrolls (Australia, Canada, Israel, Japan, and UK)Maintain payroll records and support documentationAct as a primary point of contact for payroll-related inquiries and issues, providing timely and effective resolutions, and escalating complex, non-routine, or high-risk matters to the Accounting Operations Manager for review and guidancePrepare payroll-related journal entries for reviewAssist in payroll-related balance sheet reconciliationsSupport timely completion of payroll deliverablesSupport payroll tax compliance activitiesPrepare payroll reports for internal stakeholders and auditsAssist with audit documentation requestsPartner with HR to ensure accurate employee data updatesCollaborate on payroll-related improvementsSupport the Accounting Operations Manager with broader accounting and finance operation as neededAssist with sales tax compliance activities, including data preparation and coordination of filingsSupport accounts receivable processes, including billing, collections, customer follow-ups and dunning communicationsAssist with ad hoc accounting tasks, reconciliations, and process improvementsProvide backup support for other operational accounting processes as neededQualifications:Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience) preferredCPP certification preferred3+ years of payroll or accounting experienceU.S. payroll processing expertiseOperational accounting experience (AP, AR, sales tax, cash management, etc.) preferredExperience in a multi-entity environment is a plusWorking knowledge of U.S. payroll regulationsBasic understanding of accounting operations and workflowsBasic understanding of international payroll is a plusStrong working knowledge of payroll systems (Paylocity preferred)Familiarity with accounting systems (NetSuite preferred)Strong Microsoft Excel skillsExperience with HRIS platforms is a plusExperience supporting systems implementations, integrations, or process automation initiatives across payroll, HRIS, and accounting platforms is a plusStrong attention to detailAbility to manage multiple prioritiesStrong communication and collaboration skillsAbility to escalate issues appropriately
