Payroll CoordinatorWe are looking for a Payroll Coordinator to manage all payroll activities and ensure timely, accurate payment of employee wages. The payroll coordinator will collect all necessary information and documents, compute wages, and investigate and resolve payroll issues or discrepancies. To be successful as a payroll coordinator, you should be able to efficiently coordinate payroll tasks and strictly follow company policies and legal regulations. An outstanding payroll coordinator should also possess strong people skills.Essential Functions:Collecting and verifying employee and timekeeping dataComputing wages, deductions, commissions, benefits, etc.Reviewing computed wages to ensure accuracyIssuing and distributing paychecksUpdating payroll information for promotions, transfers, terminations, and new hiresRecording and maintaining employee records and payroll transactionsPreparing statements reflecting earnings, taxes, and deductionsAnswering questions and resolving issues regarding payrollEnsuring compliance with company policies, relevant industry regulations, tax, and deduction lawsPreparing payroll reports for management and auditing purposesPrepares bi-monthly payroll, including direct depositsProcesses all deduction checks (credit union, garnishments, union dues), payment of taxes, and retirementElectronically submits payment for taxes and MedicareProcesses all substitute, period substitute, and supplemental payCompiles leave and absences for each employeeFiles monthly reports with SERS and STRS and prepares refund requestsVerifies service credit for former employeesPrepares annual salary (contract) notices, W-2s, and 1099sEnters all receipts and purchase orders into the computerEnter data to pay all vendor billsVerifies check register to calculator tape listing of bills, prints and mails checksBalances accounting and payroll systems monthlyPrepares reports for all principals, department heads and student advisorsReconciles paid checks in computer for month-end balancing to bank statementPrints outstanding check registersPrints all computer reports for month, quarter, and year-endProcess employment verificationsEncumbers all purchase ordersPerform other duties as assignedRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Degree in accounting, finance, or a related field preferred2-5 years of experience in payroll administrationGood working knowledge of accounting practices and tax lawsProficiency in Microsoft Office, payroll systems and database softwareExcellent communication skills, both verbal and writtenOrganizational and time management skillsAbility to maintain strict confidentialityStrong attention to detailAbility to work effectively with othersAbility to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writingProficiency in mathKnowledge of accounting practices and proceduresAbility to be flexible and adapt to changing situationsAbility to prioritize and meet deadlines
