SummaryMediaNews Group is seeking a Payroll Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will play a crucial role in executing payroll processes using Workday and ADP. The Payroll Specialist is responsible for the processing and reconciliation of multi-state bi-weekly and semi-monthly payrolls in accordance with department parameters, company policies, and collective bargaining agreements.Although this is a remote position, candidates must reside in CO, FL, IL, MA, MN, OH, OK, PA, or TX.What You Will DoComplete processing of multi-state bi-weekly and semi-monthly payrolls for both hourly and salaried employees by the established deadlinesEnsure accurate calculation of wages, tax withholding, and deductions, including validating submitted changes (e.g., tax, direct deposit, etc.)Assist with the balancing of bi-weekly and semi-monthly payroll accountsGenerate and distribute various payroll reports to regional Finance leadsProcess monthly bonus and commission paymentsAudit employee time and labor data submitted and interact with management as required to verify data and resolve discrepanciesBalance and process garnishments in accordance with various regulatory requirementsProcess stop-payment requests or pay cardsAnalyze and respond to inquiries from employees regarding paycheck amounts, tax withholdings, deductions, leave accruals, direct deposit, and other concernsMake sure all payroll tickets are responded to on a daily basis, including populating required ticket attributesProvide wage information for unemployment claims and other government-mandated surveysUpload severance documents to employee records and ensure timely processing of paymentsHelp with compiling and processing monthly payments for union dues and union pension plansMaintain confidentialityWhat You Will BringComprehensive understanding of tax laws and wage policies, including federal and state tax laws as well as wage and hour lawsData-driven and scientific-minded with strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and accuracyProficient in Excel and other Microsoft productsStrong and proven customer service skills with clear communication, both written and spokenAbility to manage and prioritize responsibilities; must be a team player and able to work under pressure to meet departmental and regulatory deadlinesSelf-motivated and comfortable working in both collaborative and autonomous environmentsExperience multitasking in a deadline-driven environmentAdept with technology, including using the full Google SuiteBachelor's Degree in business related field or combined education and payroll equivalent experienceCertified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) preferredA minimum of two years processing multi-state payrollsDirect experience with Workday and ADP preferredBenefits And CompensationThe hourly range is $26.00 - $28.75.
