Payroll Specialist
FNF Construction, Inc., a MasTec CE&I company is hiring a Payroll Specialist. This position will process weekly payroll for field construction personnel in an efficient, accurate, and timely manner while complying with the company's established pay practices in multiple states and subject to federal wage and hour laws. This role operates in a high-volume, fast-paced work environment and requires a high degree of accuracy, attention to detail and confidentiality.
Responsibilities include:
Fast and accurate timecard data entry, including ability to accurately proof pre-entered payroll data and follow-up in a well-documented manner with field personnel on any issues or inconsistencies.
Produces, distributes, and tracks payroll-related reporting and communications to/from projects and supervisors based on established criteria and deadlines.
Assists in the dissemination and tracking of paystubs sent each week via overnight shipping or US Postal Service.
Enters employee payroll changes weekly; pay rates, taxes, benefit deductions, and/or direct deposit information.
Ability to thoroughly proof/double-check co-workers' payroll entries ensuring 100% accuracy.
By the end of each week, this role organizes and maintains all payroll files and/or timecards digitally for the pay period, including scanning any employee forms processed during the week and attaching them to the employees' virtual personnel files, ensuring timely and accurate recordkeeping.
As the primary contact for the payroll department, this role consistently provides excellent customer service, either in-person, via email or over the telephone, to employees and/or supervisors with questions or concerns about paychecks.
As part of this fact-gathering process, this role will perform whatever research necessary to affect a resolution and work directly with the Director or Coordinator for any retroactive pay adjustments or late-time entry.
Communicates effectively and professionally with outside agencies requesting employment verifications or payroll data related to unemployment audits or employee forms.
Provides coverage or acts as backup for other payroll personnel as needed.
This role provides lunch-coverage for the front desk receptionist one day a week.
After payroll closes, this role ensures Employee Authorization for Deduction (EAD) forms are generated, tracked and returned quickly to assist in the ongoing Certified Payroll Reporting process (CPR) with ADOT.
Assists the Director, Coordinator and/or other team members with special projects, as requested or needed.
Knowledge of the general policies and practices of construction/heavy highway companies. Intermediate level of skill with Microsoft Office Products, to include Excel, Word, and Outlook. Current knowledge of applicable state and federal wage and hour laws. Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports. Possesses strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of personnel in a diverse work community. Highly organized individual who strives to maintain their personal workspace and payroll records neatly. Must possess an extreme level of attention to detail. 10-key data-entry skills are essential. Willingness to stop and ask questions and/or point out inconsistencies or concerns despite time constraints. Adaptability to change priorities or tasks, while still meeting deadlines. Ability to maintain confidential information. Ability to work well and thrive in a team environment.
Work Experience Required 2+ years of current experience, directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified above. Exposure to the Certified Payroll Report (CPR) process would be helpful. Must be able to provide three (3) business references from current/past role(s) held in payroll preferably from past supervisors or co-workers who are/were relevant to applicant's payroll-related duties.

Other Requirements Position is 100% onsite and remote work is not available. Must have reliable and available transportation. Authorized to work in the United States & able to successfully complete the pre-employment process consisting of an in-depth background check and 10-panel drug-screen.
