Payroll Supervisor
Concord, CA | Fully On-Site
We're partnering with a company seeking an experienced Payroll Supervisor to lead a payroll team and oversee day-to-day payroll operations. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for accurate and timely payroll processing, compliance, reporting, and collaboration with external payroll partners. The ideal candidate enjoys solving problems, developing team members, and improving processes in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
Lead, train, mentor, and support payroll team members.
Establish and maintain standard operating procedures for payroll processing, reporting, and compliance.
Delegate responsibilities while ensuring payroll is completed accurately and on time.
Lead payroll initiatives including system migrations, new union agreements, and process improvements.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws.
Handle escalated payroll matters including union issues, garnishments, and tax-related questions.
Conduct internal audits and reconciliations.
Prepare and analyze regular and ad-hoc payroll reports.
Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes and efficiencies.
Partner with external payroll providers to support payroll administration.
Qualifications
7+ years of payroll experience, including at least 2 years supervising a team.
Experience with certified payroll and labor job costing.
Experience with in-house payroll processing and reporting.
Familiarity with multi-state payroll reporting across multiple entities.
Strong working knowledge of payroll platforms such as ADP.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow-through.
Proven ability to coach and lead others.
Ability to quickly learn new systems and technology.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Required Experience
Construction industry payroll incl. reporting
Union and Certified Payroll
Supervisory experience (1+)
