Payroll SupervisorThe Payroll Supervisor provides day-to-day leadership and functional oversight of payroll operations across a multi-state, multi-entity organization, ensuring payroll is accurate, timely, compliant, and supported by strong controls and documented processes. This is a hands-on role responsible for reviewing payroll execution, resolving complex payroll issues, strengthening controls and business continuity, and serving as a key payroll subject-matter expert. The Payroll Supervisor should understand not only how payroll is processed, but also the financial, compliance, and employee implications of payroll decisions.Who We're Looking ForExperienced payroll professional with strong knowledge of multi-state payroll, payroll taxes, wage and hour requirements, and payroll complianceHands-on leader who can oversee payroll operations while remaining comfortable processing payroll directly when neededStrong reviewer who can identify discrepancies, evaluate downstream impacts, and ensure issues are fully resolvedProcess-minded professional who values controls, documentation, consistency, and business continuityAnalytical problem solver who can navigate complex payroll, tax, and jurisdictional issuesCollaborative partner who works effectively across Operations, HR, Finance, and ComplianceTrusted professional who exercises sound judgment and discretion with sensitive employee and payroll informationKey ResponsibilitiesOversee and review payroll processing across multiple states and legal entities, ensuring accurate and timely execution in accordance with company policies and applicable regulationsProvide day-to-day direction, review, and support to payroll team members, including workload coordination, training, and issue resolutionReview payroll inputs, employee changes, earnings, deductions, taxes, benefits, retirement contributions, and other payroll transactions prior to processingProcess payroll directly as needed to provide backup coverage and ensure business continuityInvestigate and resolve complex payroll discrepancies, tax issues, jurisdictional questions, system exceptions, and employee escalationsMaintain strong payroll controls, including documented review procedures, approval requirements, processing calendars, checklists, and segregation of dutiesPartner with Finance on payroll reconciliations, payroll liabilities, funding, general ledger accuracy, and payroll-related financial reportingCoordinate payroll tax and multi-state compliance matters, including tax notices, jurisdictional changes, and resolution of complex tax issuesMaintain the integrity of payroll-related employee and pay data and coordinate resolution of discrepancies across payroll and HR systemsOwn payroll-specific system requirements, testing, data validation, reporting, and process improvements in partnership with HR and ComplianceCoordinate retirement-plan payroll administration, including deductions, remittances, reconciliations, audits, corrections, and data requestsOversee payroll execution related to compensation changes, bonuses, leaves, benefits, employee status changes, garnishments, and other statutory deductionsOversee timekeeping inputs as they relate to payroll accuracy, exceptions, and reconciliationSupport year-end payroll processes, required filings, audits, and remediation of findingsDevelop and maintain payroll SOPs, calendars, controls, documentation, cross-training, and business continuity proceduresSupport payroll integration associated with acquisitions, new entities, and employee transfersPrepare and review workforce and payroll reporting, including trends, exceptions, and variancesIdentify opportunities to automate, simplify, and strengthen payroll processes while reducing operational and compliance riskParticipate in future payroll and HRIS system evaluation, implementation, testing, and transition activitiesEnsure appropriate backup coverage exists for critical payroll responsibilitiesRequirements5+ years of progressive payroll experience in a multi-state environment; multi-entity experience strongly preferredDemonstrated experience independently administering and reviewing end-to-end payrollStrong experience with ADP Workforce NowStrong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax requirements, wage and hour rules, and payroll complianceExperience with payroll reconciliations, payroll accounting, tax matters, retirement deductions, benefits deductions, garnishments, and complex payroll exceptionsExperience reviewing the work of others, providing payroll guidance, training team members, or coordinating payroll operationsStrong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detailStrong process orientation with experience developing or improving payroll controls, procedures, and documentationHigh level of discretion and professionalism when handling confidential informationStrong written and verbal communication skills with a service-oriented approachAbility to manage competing priorities and recurring deadlines in a fast-paced environmentLocation: We are open to a candidate located in the Denver, CO areaOur Commitment to Culture: At Miles Partnership, we are driven by our commitment to actively evolve inclusive marketing industry practices, drive innovation within the company and empower our team, our clients and the communities we serve.
