Job description

Pediatric Search Partners is engaged to conduct a national search for two experienced General Pediatric Cardiologists to join the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at Baylor College of Medicine at CHRISTUS Children’s. CHRISTUS Children’s is the first and only freestanding, academic, not-for-profit children’s hospital in San Antonio, Texas.

Located in the nation’s seventh-largest city and the second-largest city in Texas, San Antonio and the surrounding region have a rapidly growing pediatric population expected to expand significantly over the next 20 years, creating meaningful need for pediatric services and long-term professional opportunity.

Due to continued growth and patient volume, the division is seeking to expand access to pediatric cardiology at two important community locations while remaining connected to the academic, clinical and multidisciplinary resources of CHRISTUS Children’s Heart Center.

San Antonio:

This position will be based at CHRISTUS Children’s at Alon Town Center, approximately 11 miles northwest of the downtown children’s hospital , with the potential to also see patients at the CHRISTUS Children's Multispecialty Center at The Shoppes at La Cantera, about 16 miles from main campus.

New Braunfels:

Conveniently located in the growing corridor between Austin and San Antonio and just 33 miles northeast of CHRISTUS Children’s , this new pediatric cardiology outreach location offers the opportunity to establish a meaningful presence in one of Texas’ fastest-growing family communities, build strong referral relationships, and develop a long-term practice in the market.

These positions are employed by Baylor College of Medicine and include an academic appointment at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor level, commensurate with experience and qualifications, with opportunities for multidisciplinary collaboration, case conferences, quality improvement, teaching students and residents, scholarly activity, and clinical research based on individual interests.

In addition, the Max and Minnie Tomerlin Voelcker Clinical Research Center – with 200+ active research studies (supported by $5.3 million in state, federal and foundation grants) – is available for those pursuing or continuing clinical research.

About the Heart Center at CHRISTUS Children’s

The Heart Center at CHRISTUS Children’s provides comprehensive care for congenital and acquired heart disease through a highly collaborative multidisciplinary model bringing together pediatric cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, cardiac anesthesia, perfusion, critical care, and specialized nursing teams. Cardiac specialists are available around the clock to support children with both routine and highly complex cardiovascular needs while delivering thoughtful, family-centered care.

Resources include:

Dedicated cardiac surgery operating room with a specialized surgical team

Pediatric cardiac catheterization laboratory

Dedicated neonatal and pediatric transport teams available 24/7

Specialized cardiac teams within the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

Advanced cardiac imaging, including cardiac MRI, stress MRI, and cardiac CT

Comprehensive fetal cardiology, electrophysiology, echocardiography, and exercise testing capabilities

The Physician Who Will Thrive Here

Ideal candidates will be clinically excellent, collaborative Board Certified/Board Eligible Pediatric Cardiologists who value teamwork, communication, and thoughtful patient care. They will appreciate working closely with pediatric subspecialists and hospital partners and helping meet the growing needs of children and families across San Antonio and South Texas. For the New Braunfels opportunity in particular, the ideal physician will enjoy becoming part of the community, developing trusted referral relationships, and helping build a growing pediatric cardiology practice.

About CHRISTUS Children’s / Baylor College of Medicine

Serving as a focal point for pediatric services throughout the community and South Texas, CHRISTUS Children’s is a world-class children’s hospital centrally located in downtown San Antonio with an established legacy of care dating back to 1869. The organization employs more than 1,000 staff members, including a 400-nurse team that earned Magnet designation in 2018.

In 2013, CHRISTUS Children’s formed its partnership with Baylor College of Medicine , which recruits, employs, and oversees physicians for the children’s hospital. Baylor College of Medicine provides the academic platform, faculty appointment, and institutional support for pediatric specialists practicing at CHRISTUS Children’s.

About San Antonio and New Braunfels

The Alamo City is one of Texas’ most historic and appealing metropolitan areas, blending Old West history, Spanish heritage, rich diversity, and the energy of a major city with the warmth and ease of a close-knit community.

San Antonio is also one of the nation’s fastest-growing major cities. Recent U.S. Census estimates show the city added nearly 24,000 residents from 2023 to 2024, ranking fourth nationally for numeric population growth. As San Antonio and South Texas continue to grow, the region offers significant long-term opportunity for pediatric specialists serving children and families across a large and expanding referral area.

Residents are drawn to San Antonio by comparatively affordable housing, excellent schools, more than 300 days of sunshine annually, mild winters, abundant outdoor recreation, professional sports, an acclaimed culinary scene, and a strong regional economy with varied professional opportunities for spouses and partners.

The city continues to receive national recognition for its quality of life, culture, food, and visitor appeal. San Antonio was named one of Travel + Leisure’s favorite U.S. cities in the 2025 World’s Best Awards and was also included among Travel + Leisure’s best places to travel in 2025 , with recognition for its culinary innovation, history, walkability, and distinctive cultural character.

On weekends, residents can enjoy the River Walk, the Pearl, museums, parks, restaurants, shops, galleries, Fiesta celebrations, and the wide-open beauty of the Texas Hill Country with its rolling hills, big Texas skies, wineries, outdoor recreation, and charming towns such as Fredericksburg and Boerne.

San Antonio International Airport provides convenient travel access, while Corpus Christi and Port Aransas offer easy coastal getaways. Austin is less than 90 minutes away, Houston less than three hours, and Dallas about four hours.

Located in the heart of the Texas Hill Country between San Antonio and Austin, New Braunfels offers an especially attractive combination of extraordinary population growth, family-friendly living, and access to two major metropolitan areas. Part of the San Antonio metropolitan area of approximately 2.7 million people, New Braunfels is situated about 30 miles northeast of San Antonio and 48 miles southwest of Austin. With an estimated population of approximately 122,500—growth of more than 35% from the 2020 Census—and nearly one-quarter of residents under age 18, New Braunfels represents a growing need for convenient pediatric subspecialty care. The community offers an exceptional Hill Country lifestyle with river recreation, parks, nearby lakes, historic neighborhoods, restaurants, and year-round events, while giving a pediatric cardiologist the opportunity to become an important clinical resource and build a meaningful long-term practice in the Austin-San Antonio growth corridor.

And, as a resident of Texas, you’ll pay no state income tax.
