Purpose:

nUPMC Hillman Cancer Center is internationally recognized for its leadership in the prevention, detection, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer and is the region's only comprehensive cancer center designated by the National Cancer Institute.

nAs the preeminent institution in western Pennsylvania for the delivery of cancer care, the performance of basic, translational, and clinical research, and the education of the next generation of cancer researchers and physicians, UPMC Hillman Cancer Center is exceptionally well-positioned to contribute to the global effort to reduce the burden of cancer.

nUPMC Hillman Cancer Center is currently Regular Full Time Oncology Pharmacist to support the main Hillman Cancer Center Pharmacy in Shadyside/Pittsburgh, PA. This position will work a Monday through Friday daylight schedule with no holidays or weekends.

nThe pharmacist will collaborate with other members of the oncology health care team and provide clinical recommendations regarding dose adjustments of medications and/or additional supportive care medications, when appropriate, based on the drug regimen, labs results and toxicities contributing to optimal patient outcomes. The Pharmacy professional will ensure the provision of cost-effective pharmacotherapy, provide experiential education for present and future healthcare practitioners, and support drug-related research.

nResponsibilities:

nnnInterpret and evaluate physician orders and prescriptions to prepare, calculate, and dispense appropriate medication dosage forms for inpatient and outpatient treatment in accordance with the Pennsylvania Pharmacy Practice Act, Federal Drug Laws, and other regulatory organizations.

nnIdentify and report suspected adverse drug reactions accurately and in a timely manner.

n

nnSustain the formulary by minimizing non-formulary procurements, utilizing therapeutic interchange protocols, and promoting rational drug therapy selection.

n

nnReview, maintain, and screen patient medication records and profiles for allergies, drug interactions and therapeutic duplications while entering orders and/or verifying medications.

n

nnOrganize daily operational duties and assist in the supervision of pharmacy technicians, pharmacy aides, student interns and other ancillary personnel involved in providing pharmaceutical care.

n

nnAdhere to all regulatory requirements, professional standards of practice, and hospital quality management policies and procedures in providing pharmaceutical care.

n

nnCommunicate with physicians and nurses to ensure prompt clarification of orders that are unclear, illegible, or incomplete.

n

nnProvide drug information and/or educational programs to healthcare professionals and pharmacy students.

n

nnUtilize all available computer systems and technologies in the provision of pharmaceutical care

n

nnFill prescription orders in accordance with State and Federal regulations, utilizing technological resources and equipment.

n

nnPrepare and dispense intravenous admixture solutions, as required, using aseptic technique in an accepted sterile product preparation area.

n

nnGraduate of an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy

n

nnB.S in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree

n

nnRequired: Current licensure as a Pharmacist in practicing state

n

nnNo previous experience required; pharmacist experience preferred.

n

nnOncolgy experience preferred
