Pharmacy Intern ProgramFred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.With a track record of global leadership in bone marrow transplantation, HIV/AIDS prevention, immunotherapy and COVID-19 vaccines, Fred Hutch has earned a reputation as one of the world's leading cancer, infectious disease and biomedical research centers. Fred Hutch operates eight clinical care sites that provide medical oncology, infusion, radiation, proton therapy and related services, and network affiliations with hospitals in five states. Together, our fully integrated research and clinical care teams seek to discover new cures to the world's deadliest diseases and make life beyond cancer a reality.The pharmacy intern program at Fred Hutch is a structured, 3-4 year continuous program designed to assure that the intern, upon completion of the intern program in conjunction with an accredited PharmD program, will be able to carry-out all of the functions required to perform distribution as well as supportive clinical duties in an ambulatory oncology setting. The interns will work closely with pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, pharmacy residents, and other healthcare professionals. Each year of the program has designated expectations and goals that build upon the last and correspond with each professional year of pharmacy school. By the end of the internship it is expected but not limited that interns be trained in the following areas sterile compounding, pyxis, investigational drug services. Interns will receive clinical exposure and education that will facilitate the development of the critical thinking skills necessary for contemporary practice.ResponsibilitiesHazardous and Non-Hazardous Sterile CompoundingPyxis RefillingInvestigational Drug ServicesRetail Pharmacy DispensingCounseling PatientsPrepares, packages, and labels medication in an accurate and efficient manner.Charging and billing functionsOperates CII safe and follows all controlled substance proceduresFilling and documentation of pyxis, emergency/code boxes and code traysMonitors stock for expiration dates and removes outdatesMedication reconciliationDelivery of patient specific medications to infusion or other areas of the clinicOther pharmacy related duties in accordance with regulations under Washing State Pharmacy Quality Assurance CommissionQualifications Required: Enrolled in University of Washington School of PharmacyPharmacy Intern LicenseTime ManagementTravelAbility to communicate verbally in person, on the phone, and in writing in a clear, concise and professional mannerAccurate and aseptic IV admixture preparationAble to perform basic pharmaceutical calculationsAbility to use a mouse, navigate computer programs, enter data into computer systems accurately and efficiently.Familiarity with the generic names of drugs along with the basic indication Pre Employment Drug Screening: As a condition of employment Fred Hutch conducts pre-employment drug testing for this pharmacy role. All offers of employment in the pharmacy department are conditional on the applicant successfully completing and passing a drug test in accordance with the Fred Hutch policy.The hourly pay range for this position is from $26.50 to $29.95, which includes the per diem differential, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications. Although Fred Hutch is not sponsoring most H-1B visas at this time, candidates who already hold an H-1B sponsored by another organization and are currently in the U.S. may be eligible for this position.
