Job Type: Travel

Profession: Pharmacy

Specialty: Pharmacy

Duration: 13 weeks

Shift: Varying shifts available

Hours per Shift: 8, 10, or 12 hours

Experience: Client pharmacy experience is a plus. Experience in treating critically ill patients in an intensive care unit is preferred. Experience with cardiac care, emergency services, inpatient behavioral health, and orthopedic surgery is beneficial.

License: Pharmacy state licensure required.

Certifications: BLS via AHA required. ACLS via AHA preferred.

Must-Have: PharmD or BS Pharmacy degree required. Current pharmacist license maintained.

Description: Pharmacists are responsible for filling orders for medications. They monitor patient drug therapies and provide drug information. Pharmacists deliver pharmacy services with compassion, excellence, and efficiency.

Operational Duties and Responsibilities:

Prepares and dispenses drug orders as requested by physicians according to established policies and protocols.

Interprets drug orders accurately and transcribes them into the computerized patient medication record.

Maintains accurate and complete patient drug records.

Compounds and dispenses pharmaceuticals, including non-sterile and sterile products.

Issues controlled substances to patient care areas and maintains records in compliance with regulations.

Provides services efficiently and in a timely manner.

Ensures continuing education records and licenses are maintained in department files.

Attends staff meetings and completes all competency and skills assessment requirements.

Supervises and directs pharmacy support personnel. Verifies the daily activities of pharmacy technicians.

Clinical Duties and Responsibilities:

Ensures safe, appropriate, and cost-effective drug therapies for patients.

Monitors drug therapy regimens for contraindications and interactions.

Assists with pharmacokinetics consultation and renal drug dosing per hospital protocols.

Interprets information in patient medical records accurately.

Detects and reports suspected adverse drug reactions in a timely manner.

Sustains the hospital drug formulary and promotes rational drug therapy selection.

Provides clinical consultation to practitioners as appropriate.

Provides drug education to patients and their families as per institutional protocol.

Participates in quality improvement and medication use review activities.

Collects data, conducts inspections, and maintains logs and records as assigned.

Conducts designated interventions as defined by departmental clinical activities.

Participates in stewardship and management activities as assigned.

Attends interdisciplinary rounds when assigned.

Occupational Hazards: Potential for exposure to hazardous and toxic substances. Risk of exposure from sharps and potential for musculoskeletal injuries. Potential exposure to biologic material during patient care activities.
