Job description
Pay Range: $22.24hr - $24.00hr
Job Overview:
The main function of the Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.
Position Responsibilities:
Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, handle decontamination, and update patient information.
Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections clearly and courteously.
Demonstrate proficiency using straight needles and butterfly needles.
Fully understand all physician orders.
Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure complete accuracy.
Package specimens for transport.
Store specimen samples according to required temperatures, place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, label accurately, and follow specific protocol procedures to maintain specimen integrity during transport.
Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
Attend annual department training sessions.
Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Minimum Qualifications: Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required.
Minimum of 6 months of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
High School Diploma or GED.
2 to 4 years of relevant experience.
