Job description
Pay Range: $18.98hr - $19.70hr
Job Overview:
The primary function of the Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and providing workflow recommendations.
Position Responsibilities:
Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, handle decontamination, and update patient information.
Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
Properly explain in a clear and courteous manner the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections as required.
Demonstrate collection techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.
Fully understand all physician orders.
Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure complete accuracy.
Package specimens for transport.
Store specimen samples according to required temperatures, place samples in appropriate collection containers or tubes, label accurately, and follow specific protocol procedures to maintain specimen integrity during transport while complying with OSHA and DEP regulations.
Attend annual department training sessions.
Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Minimum Qualifications: Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment as required.
Minimum of 6 months of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
High School Diploma or GED.
