Job description

PhlebotomistCollects blood, urine and swab specimens for use for clinical analysis, evaluations, and/or diagnostic purposes. May work at any of the three locations of Grays Harbor Public Hospital District #1.Job Duties and ResponsibilitiesGreets patients and instructs them in proper specimen collection methods.Draw blood specimens by using venipuncture, finger stick or heel stick in various settings (Outpatient, ER, Inpatient)Collect throat or nasal specimens.Processes specimens for use by Lab Techs or for sending to Reference Lab.Perform CLIA waived testing and certain NON-CLIA waived testingCollects and processes Drug Screens for Pre-Employment and NON-DOT Post Accidents.Answers phone and routes calls, if necessary, to appropriate staff.Assists in inventory of laboratory supplies and stocks work area as needed.Special projects and other duties as assigned by Department or Clinic Manager which may include duties outside of the laboratory.Organizational ResponsibilitiesIn addition to the duties and responsibilities listed above, all employees are expected to support the Summit Pacific Medical Center mission, vision and values; comply with SPMC policies and procedures; and conduct themselves in an ethical, professional, respectful, and collaborative manner at all times.Required Education and ExperienceHigh School Diploma or Equivalent required.Six (6) months phlebotomy experience in a patient care setting preferred.Six (6) months of sample processing preferred.Six (6) months of CLIA waived testing preferred.Required Licenses, Certifications and/or RegistrationsA Current Washington State MA/Phlebotomist License obtained within 90-days of hire.Current BLS certification or obtained within 90 days of hire.Required Knowledge, Skills, AbilitiesIntermediate working knowledge and competence in laboratory processes, applications, and testing procedures.Proficient in the use of current technology, including Microsoft Office products. Ability to learn and effectively use electronic medical records and other systems and equipment.Working knowledge of Medical TerminologyGood organizational skills and ability to multi-taskEffective interpersonal and communication skills.Ability to read, write and speak the English language.Ability to follow oral and written instructions.Ability to perform a wide variety of assignments that require the use of independent judgment, problem-solving, organization, prioritization, and interpersonal skills.Shift at times will be variable, the ability to be flexible is required.Physical RequirementsLifting 35lbs: Seldom (1-10% of the time)Carrying 35lbs: Seldom (1-10% of the time)Pushing/Pulling: Occasional (10-30% of the time)Sitting: Frequent (30-70% of the time)Standing: Constant (over 70% of the time)Walking: Constant (over 70% of the time)Bending/Stooping: Constant (over 70% of the time)Crouching: Seldom (1-10% of the time)Sensory RequirementsVision: Within normal range, with or without corrective devicesHearing: Within normal range, with or without corrective devicesSpeech: Within normal range, with or without corrective devicesFTE:0Work Shift:SVC Contract 12 hour shifts in a 40 hour work weekWorking Location:Elma, Washington
