Job description

Phlebotomist PRN Position - Variable Hours

Job Summary:

Draws and collects blood samples from all age patients, verifies records and prepares specimens for laboratory analysis.

Relies on SOP instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.

Works under Phlebotomy Lead/ immediate supervision.

Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.

Qualifications:

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.

Certification by a nationally recognized body (ASCP preferred).

Has knowledge of commonly collecting devices, anatomy concepts, best practice collections, and disinfection procedures.

Has been deemed competent to work independently.

Knowledgeable to maintain Worklist & keep up with order timeline, the quick receipt to specimens into the lab system, attesting to the patient identification / tube accuracy & general knowledge of the corrects tubes needs plus the order of draw.

Follows instructions & is self-sufficient once deemed competent, help trains new staff & possesses team-mindedness, is an excellent lab ambassador when outside the lab & very cooperative to nursing staff.

Odessa Regional Medical Center was founded in 1975 as Odessa Women's and Children's Hospital. Through the years, the hospital grew and evolved into a full-service healthcare facility and the name was changed to Odessa Regional Medical Center to reflect its larger campus and more comprehensive services. The hospital has 225 beds and has approximately 250 physicians on staff and has over 700 employees.

Today, ORMC offers a wide spectrum of healthcare services, including advanced diagnostic imaging technology, emergency care, innovative surgical procedures, maternity care, comprehensive cardiac services and general medical care.
