Job description
Physical Therapist AssistantA licensed professional who provides physical therapy services to patients as prescribed by the attending physician under the direct (but not on-site) supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist.Essential FunctionsTreat patients to relieve pain and/or develop or restore function to reach the highest level of independence possible.Instruct patients and their families in the use of prosthetic, orthotic and assistive devices (canes, walkers, wheelchairs, etc.).Write clinical progress notes on the date of the visit for inclusion into the patient's permanent record.Attend Physical Therapy staff meetings, conduct in-service presentations and case conferences.Perform an on-site, joint visit with the assigned Physical Therapist initially, and communicate regularly for instruction in changes in the patient's program.Communicate regularly with the case manager and other health care professionals assigned to a case.Instruct patients and their families in transfer techniques, home exercise program and activities of daily living as assigned by the physical therapist.Other duties as assigned.This job description reflects management's assignment of essential functions; and nothing in this herein restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time.Education RequirementsGraduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.Current, valid PTA license issued by NYS Department of Education required.Qualifications and RequirementsOne year of practical, post licensing experience as a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant.Work EnvironmentThe PTA is primarily a non-office setting and may be exposed to outdoor conditions.The working conditions are classified as medium work:Medium work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
