Job description
Find your calling at Mercy! The Physical Therapist is responsible for evaluating and assessing needs of patients and formulating treatment plans. Provides therapy services defined in treatment plans, and works cooperatively with physicians, case managers, and staff. In addition, the Physical Therapist provides direction to Physical Therapy Assistants and Aides.

In this role, you'll help patients regain mobility, restore function, and improve their quality of life through individualized treatment plans and exceptional care.

What You'll Do
As a Physical Therapist, you will:
Evaluate and assess patient needs to develop individualized treatment plans
Provide physical therapy services in accordance with established treatment plans
Collaborate closely with physicians, case managers, and interdisciplinary care teams
Supervise and provide direction to Physical Therapist Assistants and Rehabilitation Aides/Technicians
Deliver high-quality care to adult and geriatric patient populations
Ensure compliance with departmental standards, state practice acts, and Mercy Service Standards
Contribute to a positive, patient-centered care environment
Qualifications
Required Education
Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy
Required Licensure & Certifications
Current or temporary Physical Therapy license in the state of practice
Current BLS certification (must be obtained prior to independently caring for patients)
Preferred Experience
Six months to one year of rehabilitation experience
Experience working with adult and geriatric patients preferred
Physical Requirements
Lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 50 pounds on a regular basis
Stand and walk for extended periods during each shift
Frequently bend, kneel, twist, squat, reach, and grip while providing patient care

Transforming the Health of Our Communities
Our Mercy health system was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1986. But our heritage goes back more than 195 years. It began with an Irish woman named Catherine McAuley, who was determined to help women and children in Dublin experiencing poverty. Though Catherine had a modest upbringing, she received an unexpected inheritance that allowed her to fulfill that dream. In 1827, she opened the first House of Mercy in Dublin, intending to teach skills to women and educate children. Many volunteers came to help. A few years later, Catherine founded the Sisters of Mercy, one of the first religious orders whose Sisters were free to walk among the poor and visit them in their homes. In 1843, the Sisters of Mercy came to the United States. In 1856, they traveled to St. Louis. In the years to come, they would establish hospitals throughout the Midwest. Many of these would join together in 1986 as Mercy.
