Physical Therapy AssistantThis position is responsible for performing patient treatments under the general supervision of a Physical Therapist. This may include preparing patients and equipment, performing procedures, administration of physical therapy modalities and other duties as needed or assigned.Educational Requirements:Completion of a Physical Therapy Assistant program accredited by the APTALicensed by the Physical Therapy Board of California as a Physical Therapy AssistantCurrent CPR or Basic Life Support certificationQualifications and Skills:Strong communication skills with staff, physicians and patientsExperience with outpatient orthopedic physical therapyGood analytical and problem-solving skillsAbility to prioritize work flow in a fast-paced environmentResponsibilities include, but are not limited to:1. Accountable for participation in direct patient care and performing patient treatments under the general supervision of a Physical TherapistPerforms treatment in accordance with the physical therapist's assessment and treatment planPerforms treatment in a safe and timely manner while recognizing and addressing the needs of the patientIndividualizes teaching based on the learning needs and abilities of the patient and assures the understanding of instructions for self or home careRecognizes, reports and corrects unsafe patient practicesIndependently utilizes complex equipmentProvides appropriate documentation in the patient's medical record of each physical therapy visitAssists in adjusting schedules to accommodate changes in department caseloadMaintains open communication with the physical therapists regarding the patients' progress and status2. Accountable for ensuring maintenance and care of the department as an orderly, clean and safe work environmentMaintains operation and cleanliness of physical therapy equipment according to safety and infection control standardsPlans, communicates and cooperates with other department personnel in maintaining an orderly, clean, safe work areaReports any defective equipment to the PT directorMaintains proper levels of supplies and equipment in designated areasCompletes additional job tasks as assigned by the PT Director3. Continual patient handling will be required. Good eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to treat patients, operate a keyboard, telephone, and other office/PT equipment is also required.
