POSITION SUMMARY:
The Physician Advisor plays a critical role in promoting evidence-based standards of medical care while maintaining appropriate utilization of Hospital resources. Emphasis is on facilitating communication between the Department, Medical Staff, Nursing Staff, and Administration regarding systems-based practice, regulatory and quality considerations in the delivery of medical care. The Physician Advisor plays a key role in the following: advocating for the best and most efficient care for Hospital patients; removing barriers to care; working with attending physicians to facilitate the care of the patient.
POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS :
Active Texas license as an MD or DO
Board certification by an ABMS-recognized specialty
JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE :
• Minimum of 5 years of hospital -based clinical experience Demonstrated leadership experience in a large system or department
Strong communication skills and a data-driven mindset
Organized, collaborative, and effective with time management
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: Reviewing cases for appropriate level of care and monitoring observation stays
Educating physicians and committees on utilization and documentation best practices
Leading daily huddles, case conferences, and peer education
Chairing the Utilization Management Committee quarterly
Managing payer denials and completing peer-to-peer reviews
Partnering with CDI/HIM teams to improve documentation quality
Supporting administration in reducing
