nPhysician (Psychiatry) Schofield Barracks, Hawaii

nAbout the Position: This position is with Defense Health Agency located at the Desmond T. Doss Health Clinic, Psychiatry Services, on Schofield Barracks, HI.

nThis is a Direct Hire Solicitation.

nThe Island of Oahu in Hawaii is often nicknamed (or translated as) "The Gathering Place" . It is currently the most populated Hawaiian Island. The city of Honolulu is the largest city, state capital, and main deep water marine port for the State of Hawaii. As a jurisdictional unit, the entire island of Oahu is in Honolulu County, although as a place name, Honolulu occupies only a portion of the southeast end of the island. Well-known features found on Oahu include Waikiki, Pearl Harbor, Diamond Head, Hanauma, Kane’ohe Bay, Kailua Bay, North Shore, and the resort destination, Ko’Olina.

nOahu is also known for having the longest rain shower in history, which lasted for 200 consecutive days. Kāneʻohe Ranch reported 247 straight days with rain from August 27, 1993 to April 30, 1994. The average temperature in Oahu is around 70–85 °F (21–29 °C) and the island is the warmest in June through October. The weather during the winter is cooler, but still warm with an average temperature of 68–78 °F (20–26 °C).

nResponsibilities

nMAJOR DUTIES:

nnnProvide treatment services including inpatient, consultation liaison services, partial hospitalization, day programs, emergency psychiatric services, tele-psychiatric services, routine/intensive outpatient services.

n

nnDevelop treatment plans and provide appropriate therapeutic treatment services that may include medication management, various individual therapy modalities, and group therapy.

n

nnMonitor treatment through evidence-based medicine and alters course of treatment providing follow-up care for adult patients with mental health and behavioral disorders.

n

nnPrescribe appropriate pharmacological and psychotherapeutic treatment.

n

nnCollaborate with physicians in other medical specialties on cases involving rare, complicated, and multifaceted cases that require advanced treatments.

n

nnProvide professional consultation, supervision, and collaborative medical support to other professional staff such as psychologists, advanced practice nurses, social workers, and other healthcare providers.

n

nnServe as member of local Medical Evaluation Boards for assessment and determination of duty.

n

nnConduct training and provides supervision over psychiatric residents, interns, medical students, psychology interns, and other medical and mental health trainees.

n

nnMakes recommendations on improvement of work methods and organizational features while serving on committees or working groups that review and establish new treatment guidelines or updates policy for mental health across the service component.

n

nnParticipate in Quality Assurance (QA) functions, performance improvement programs, risk management programs, and peer review programs.

n

nnServe as member of the professional medical staff and provides advisory and consultative services on various local and national meetings, committees, conferences, and/or boards.

nIn order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. nBasic Requirement for Physician (Psychiatry):

nDegree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must have provided education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts or proof of foreign equivalency with your application package.)

nLicensure: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

nGraduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least one year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a one-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training.

nIn addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

nResidency, Experience, and Training : Applicants must have successfully completed the required accredited residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled ( Psychiatry ) and equivalent experience and training equal to at least 4 years . Experience may not be substituted for residency training that is required for the specialty identified.

nIf you are selected for a Physician position: A salary quote will not be provided to you at the time of the initial job offer. The salary determination process begins after the initial job offer is accepted. This consists of the Activity Compensation Panel adding base pay and market pay to determine your starting salary and this will be provided to you once approved. Salary for physician positions is based on a tier scale, determined by the position specialty, grade, and location.

nEducation

nFOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
