Job description
Experienced Pipe Layers NeededWe are currently taking applications for experienced pipe layers for the Thibodaux, LA area and surrounding regions. Duties may include assembling, connecting, and constructing pipe systems for storm or sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains. Ensures ground is prepped and trenches dug out for pipes. Aligns pipes and seals joints together with cement or glue.Required skills include a construction background (1 year minimum), ability to operate laser/pipe level, understanding slope, setting boxes, setting mason boxes, detailed knowledge of construction and pipe fitting techniques, knowledge of sewer systems, storm drains, and water mains, experience with machine-operated trenching tools.Duties/responsibilities include digging/grading trenches to lay pipe in, laying sections of pipe & completing connections between pipe sections, completing welds on sections of metal pipe where metal piping is specified, making connections to lines including sewer lines, water lines, & storm sewers, coordinating with pipe crews while working inside trench or trench boxes, laying pipe for storm or sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains, laying out pipe routes, following written instructions or blueprints and coordinating layouts with supervisors, digging trenches to desired or required depths, by hand or using trenching tools, aligning and positioning pipes to prepare them for welding or sealing, installing or repairing sanitary or storm water sewer structures or pipe systems, locating existing pipes needing repair or replacement, using magnetic or radio indicators, grouting experience is a plus, experience with checking grade, performing any combination of the following tasks: grade trenches or culverts, position pipe, or seal joints, installing or using instruments such as lasers, grade rods, or transit levels, coordinating with operators to ensure PVC or RCP is properly connected and set to grade, understanding safety precautions associated with working in trenches and trench boxes, complying with company policies and legal guidelines, helping to maintain a safe and orderly work environment, meeting quality and performance requirements as outlined by quality assurance and production standards, reporting safety hazards, quality, and production issues to management immediately.Physical requirements include lifting up to 55 lbs, good endurance, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, kneeling, and crawling to perform tasks, working in varying hot and cold environments, working outdoors in harsh weather conditions, working in environments with exposures to dust, dirt and various other debris, metal and paint fumes, gases, high, precarious places and outside weather conditions, occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock.Documents required include driver's license/identification, social security card/birth certificate.Must be able to pass drug screen. Must have reliable transportation (will be required to travel up to a 60 mile radius).Pay: Starting pay: $17.00 - $20.00 (based on experience). Weekly pay. Pay schedule: Monday - Sunday.Schedule: Monday - Friday (weekends as needed). 8 - 12 hour days (with weather permitting).Duration of job: Temp to hire (based on job performance).
