Job description
Pipe InstallerResponsible for assembling, connecting, and constructing pipe systems for storm or sanitation sewers, fire, water mains. Ensures ground is prepped and trenches dug out for pipes. Aligns pipes and seals joints together with cement or gasket joint materials.Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesInstall or use instruments such as lasers, grade rods, or transit levels.Cut pipes to required lengths.Connect pipe pieces and seal joints.Cover pipes with earth or other materials.Install or repair sanitary or stormwater sewer structures or pipe systems.Align and position pipes for new installation or repair.Check slopes for conformance to requirements, using levels or lasers.Lay out pipe routes, following written instructions or blueprints and coordinating layouts with supervisors.Operate equipment, such as rollers, loaders, excavators, plate compactors and jumping jacks.Grade or level trench vases, using tamping machines or hand tools.Dig trenches to desired or required depths, by hand or using trenching tools.Tap and frill holes into pipes to introduce auxiliary lines or devices.Locate existing pipes needing repair or replacement, using magnetic or radio indicators.Train others in laying pipe.QualificationsHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED).Minimum 1-year related experience or an equivalent combination of education and training.Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently.Exhibit a high level of safety consciousness and a clear understanding of equipment safety.Ability to interpret blueprints/plans and construct accordingly.Valid Driver license.OSHA 30 preferred (but not required).Ability to set up & use effectively, site level, grade laser, pipe laser and straight-line level.Communication SkillsAbility to follow verbal and written instruction and communicate effectively.Mathematical SkillsAbility to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals to compute rate, ration, percent.Reasoning AbilityRequires independent judgement and conscious thinking.Physical DemandsAbility to work as part of a team.Ability to work on weekends, public holidays, and at night.Ability to travel to wherever the job is needed.Ability to work for long hours in all weather conditions.Ability to stand for extended periods of time, and to stoop, bend, and crouch as required to perform key duties.Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, at least 50-90 pounds personally, and up to 150 pounds with assistance.Maintain constant alertness to multiple concurrent activities of the construction site, including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment.Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.Sufficient skill and visual acuity, under varying degrees of light, darkness, and weather conditions.Work EnvironmentWork is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.Work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise, grease and dust this is typically associated with a construction project.Employee regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on construction sites such as oil, grease, gasoline, diesel fuel, and tack.Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA.BenefitsHealth, vision, dental, and life insurance.401K retirementCompetitive hourly wagesPaid weeklyDirect deposit.PTOCompany Culture: Join a fun, family-oriented company that prioritizes internal growth and offers opportunities to build a rewarding career.
