Job description
Job Title: Pipefitter Job Description
This role focuses on the repair, modification, installation, assembly, removal, testing, flushing, and troubleshooting of shipboard and industrial piping systems and related equipment. You review and interpret technical work packages, including specifications, drawings, manuals, and sketches, and apply relevant maritime and industrial standards to ensure safe, compliant, and high-quality work on marine piping systems.
Responsibilities
Review and interpret work packages, including technical information, specification items, drawings, manuals, sketches, and related documentation to plan and execute piping tasks accurately.
Perform repair, modification, installation, assembly, removal, testing, flushing, and troubleshooting of shipboard and industrial piping systems and associated equipment.
Adhere strictly to applicable documents, references, and safety guidelines, including ABS rules, MIL STD 777E, 22D, 1627, MSC General Technical Requirements (GTR), NAVSEA Standard Items, General Specifications for Overhaul of Ships, ASME/ANSI standards, U.S. Coast Guard Standard Items, Specifications of Work, special bending procedures, and NAVSEA 0900-LP- for fabrication and inspection of brazed piping systems.
Work independently while reading and applying blueprints to fabricate, repair, install, and test marine piping systems.
Install and maintain ship piping systems such as steam heat and power, hot water, hydraulic, air pressure, and oil lines using blueprints, layouts, and work orders.
Plan the layout of pipe sections to ensure conformance to specifications while accounting for obstructions and existing holes.
Cut and bore holes in bulkheads and decks to facilitate the installation of pipes in accordance with layout plans.
Operate shop machines to cut and thread pipe and pipe fittings, including valves, traps, and thermostats.
Bend pipe to specified shapes using pipe-bending fixtures and special procedures as required.
Bolt or weld pipe brackets and supports to secure piping systems in place.
Connect piping systems to fixtures and equipment such as heat exchangers, laundry and galley equipment, pumps, tanks, and other shipboard machinery.
Repair, pack, and adjust valves to ensure proper function and reliability.
Test installed piping systems for leaks and verify that systems meet all applicable specifications and performance requirements.
Essential Skills
4-5+ years of experience as a pipefitter in a shipyard environment.
Strong proficiency in fitting and silver brazing of piping systems.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and detailed work packages.
Hands-on experience with marine piping systems, including fabrication, repair, installation, and testing.
Knowledge and application of ABS rules and standards.
Knowledge and application of MIL STD 777E, 22D, and 1627.
Familiarity with MSC General Technical Requirements (GTR).
Experience working with NAVSEA Standard Items and General Specifications for Overhaul of Ships.
Understanding of ASME/ANSI standards related to piping and pressure systems.
Knowledge of U.S. Coast Guard Standard Items and Specifications of Work for marine environments.
Ability to follow specialized procedures for pipe bending and brazed piping fabrication and inspection, including NAVSEA 0900-LP- .
Eligibility to obtain DBIDS access for work aboard naval vessels.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Demonstrated skill as a pipefitter with experience in silver brazing and precision fitting.
Experience working specifically on marine piping systems in shipboard settings.
Comfort using hand tools, shop machines, pipe-bending fixtures, and equipment for cutting, threading, and assembling piping components.
Attention to detail when planning pipe layouts to meet specifications and navigate structural obstructions.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high safety and quality standards.
Strong troubleshooting skills for identifying and resolving issues in installed piping systems.

Work Environment
Work takes place aboard a naval vessel, specifically the USS REAGAN, in an active shipboard environment. You will work in and around operational compartments, bulkheads, decks, and machinery spaces, using hand tools, shop machines, pipe-bending fixtures, and testing equipment. The setting involves adherence to strict safety and access requirements, including DBIDS eligibility, and requires comfort working in confined spaces, at heights, and around ship systems and equipment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Seattle, WA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $32.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
