Pipefitter - Welder*Benefits Eligibility: This position is eligible for benefits beginning the first of the month following your hire date.*Recruiting Agencies: Thorpe Specialty Services does not accept unsolicited resumes from recruiting agencies.The Pipefitter - welder is responsible for the layout, assembly, installation, maintenance, welding, fabrication and repair of piping systems in industrial and heavy commercial environments, supporting projects related to facilities, new construction, and renovations. This role requires a high degree of skill in interpreting piping drawings and specifications, cutting and fitting pipe, and ensuring systems are installed to meet industry and project standards for safety and quality.Role and ResponsibilitiesRead and interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, P&IDs, and specifications to determine piping layout and work procedures.Measure, cut, thread, bend, and weld pipes using hand tools, machines, and welding equipment.Install, modify, and repair various types of piping systems including carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy, and non-metallic piping.Select proper materials, supports, and jointing methods based on project specifications and environmental conditions.Coordinate installation with other trades, such as scaffolders, insulators, and corrosion technicians.Perform pressure testing, leak testing, and inspections of completed piping systems.Follow company and customer safety policies, including proper use of PPE, fall protection, confined space entry, and hot work procedures.Assist with rigging and lifting pipe and materials using cranes or other lifting devices.Document work completed, material usage, and any deviations from plan.Load, transport and unload materials, tools, equipment and supplies.Secure pipe to structure with bracket, clamps and hangers using proper hand and power tools.Assembles and installs a variety of metal or nonmetal pipes and pipe fittings, using threaded caulked, soldering, brazen, fused, or cemented joints, and hand tools.Support other industrial services work (refractory, corrosion, rubber lining) as needed depending on project demands.Perform other duties as assigned.Qualifications and Education Requirements4+ years of industrial pipefitting experience, preferably in heavy industrial or petrochemical environments.2+ years of welding experience in an industrial or construction environment.Proficiency with SMAW, TIG, and MIG welding techniques.Welding certifications preferred (or ability to pass company-administered weld tests).Experience with various piping materials and joining techniques, including welding, flanging, threading, braising, soldering and grooved connections.Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.Familiarity with OSHA standards and industrial safety practices.Experience with VRF systems (preferred but not required).Experience with hydronic, steam, refrigeration piping processes with cooling towers, chillers, boilers and large roof top equipment.NCCER Pipefitter Certification or equivalent (preferred but not required).Physical RequirementsThe physical demands described below are representative of those required to perform the essential functions of this role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.Thorpe will engage in an individualized, interactive process to evaluate accommodation requests, including those arising from a workplace injury or workers' compensation claim.This position requires the frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force to lift, carry, and manipulate materials and equipment, along with regular work in confined spaces and at heights, consistent with the U.S. Department of Labor's Heavy Work classification.For purposes of this description: "Occasionally" means up to 1/3 of the work shift; "Frequently" means 1/3 to 2/3 of the work shift; and "Constantly" means more than 2/3 of the work shift.Standing/Walking/Bending/Squatting/Crawling: Frequently required to stand, walk, bend, squat, and crawl for extended periods while installing and fitting pipe systems.Climbing/Elevated Work: Frequently required to climb ladders and scaffolds and to work on elevated platforms, scaffolding, or lifts.Confined Spaces: Frequently required to work in confined spaces.Lifting/Carrying: Frequently required to lift, carry, and manipulate materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds; occasionally required to handle heavier loads with mechanical assistance or a second person.Manual Dexterity: Frequently required to use hand tools and pipefitting equipment with precision.Vision/Hearing: Requires vision sufficient to read labels, safety warnings, and guidelines; hearing sufficient to receive instructions and communicate with co-workers.Environmental Conditions: Regular exposure to varying environmental conditions, including heat, cold, noise, dust, and hazardous materials.PPE Usage: Required to wear and properly use personal protective equipment as dictated by site conditions and applicable regulations.Work Schedule: Must have the stamina to work long shifts, including overtime, nights, weekends, or holidays, depending on project needs.Return-to-Work and Modified DutyAn employee returning from a work-related or non-work-related injury or illness must provide medical documentation, as requested, describing any functional limitations or restrictions. The Company will compare the employee's documented restrictions against the essential functions described above and, where feasible and consistent with business necessity, consider temporary modified-duty or light-duty assignments. Availability of modified duty is evaluated on a case-by-case basis and is not guaranteed for any specific position or duration.
