Job description
Finance that lives on the plant floor, not in the back office.
We’re looking for a Plant Controller to be a true finance partner to our Operations, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain leaders. You’ll sit in production meetings, walk the floor, and help shape planning decisions, connecting what happens in the plant to what shows up in the numbers.
Your first priority: build a best-in-class job costing and job profitability function. Your broader mandate: make sure every operational decision is made with a clear view of its financial impact.
What you’ll do
Job costing and profitability (your primary focus)
Launch a recurring weekly or biweekly job cost review tracking actual cost-to-date against percent-complete on every open job
Own job cost data integrity in the ERP so labor, material, and overhead post to the right job in real time
Spot jobs trending toward margin erosion early and elevate the lead time to act
Run job close-out variance analysis on labor, material/scrap, and overhead, and get to root cause
Build job profitability reporting by customer, job type, and product line
Develop fully loaded burden rates by work cell and product line
Partner with Operations on labor efficiency, utilization, and capacity models that support proactive staffing
Plant finance and close
Challenge the standard costs, BOMs, and routings behind job estimates
Lead cycle and physical inventory counts and reconcile WIP to the general ledger
Support month‑end close, budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, and audit readiness
Fixed assets and capital projects
Maintain the fixed asset register, including tagging, capitalization, depreciation, and physical verification
Serve as the site’s point of contact for auditors on fixed asset testing
Partner with Engineering and Operations to build business cases for capital projects using payback, NPV, and IRR alongside throughput, yield, and labor metrics
Track capex spend against budget and lead post‑implementation reviews that sharpen future planning
What you bring
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (advanced degree a plus)
5+ years of cost accounting or plant controller experience with direct job costing exposure; make‑to‑order, engineer‑to‑order, or project shop background strongly preferred
Hands‑on experience with WIP tracking, percent‑complete methods, or earned value analysis (beyond standard/process costing)
Fixed asset accounting and capital project evaluation experience
Advanced Excel skills and hands‑on ERP experience (SAP, Oracle, MS Dynamics, Epicor, or similar)
The resourcefulness to build workarounds when the ERP falls short
The ability to translate variances into plain‑language, actionable feedback for non‑finance teams
Comfort working side by side with project managers, estimators, and operations leaders
Why this role
High visibility and real influence on how the plant runs
A chance to build the job costing function and shape it through a future ERP implementation or upgrade
Health, 401k matching and more.
Work environment:
On‑site at the plant with regular time in production areas. PPE required on the floor, with occasional exposure to industrial noise and machinery.
