PLUMBER - Wakulla Correctional InstitutionThis open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Wakulla Correctional Institution in the Maintenance Department. The mission of Facilities Management and Building Construction at the Florida Department of Corrections is to provide a safe, secure, and efficient environment for staff, inmates, and visitors. This is achieved through the effective management, maintenance, and construction of correctional facilities, ensuring they meet all regulatory standards and support the department's overall mission of public safety and rehabilitation.Job Duties:Installation and repair of plumbing and associated systems, LP Gas supply, Waste Collection and Potable Water necessary to operate a major institution.Provide on the job training to those inmates he/she supervises in plumbing and associated systems.Performs preventive maintenance and repairs for all plumbing systems, including LP gas supply, waste collection, and potable water.Installs, maintains, and repairs plumbing fixtures such as valves, faucets, traps, sinks, sewer lines, vents, and sanitary fixtures.Conducts tests, maintains logs, and keeps records for equipment as per Department guidelines.Repairs, replaces, and checks high and low pressure steam boilers, safety devices, and controls, and cleans boilers, tanks, and water heaters.Reads blueprints, plans and organizes work, prepares reports, supervises inmates, participates in departmental training, and performs other related duties as required.Benefits:Paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays.Comprehensive health insurance and life insurance with accidental death and dismemberment benefits.Supplemental Dental, Vision, Life, Disability and Hospitalization insurance.Tuition-Free college courses.Retirement Plans with the Florida Retirement System: Pension Plan (Traditional Retirement Pension Plan) Investment Plan (401(K)-Type Retirement Plan) Deferred Retirement Option Program (DROP) Deferred Compensation.Requirements:High school diploma or its equivalent and at least one (1) year of experience in the plumbing trade OR four or more years of experience in the plumbing trade (College or vocational/technical training in the above listed trade can substitute for the required experience).A valid Driver's license.Support of knowledge, skills, and abilities should be demonstrated on the application, in the education, in the work experience, in the work sample, in the interview and/or during reference checks.Additional Information:Background Screening Requirement: The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes.
