Job description
The Lieutenant is a key member of the Cedar Key Police Department’s leadership team, responsible for maintaining public safety, enforcing the law, and leading community engagement. The role calls for proven leadership skills, law enforcement expertise, and a steady commitment to integrity and professionalism. This is a full-time position with an 8-hour shift.
Key Responsibilities
Enforce local, state, and federal laws to uphold public safety and order
Manage and de-escalate conflict situations using effective techniques
Maintain accurate records of daily activities, incidents, and investigations for legal and departmental review
Serve as a leader and mentor to officers, supporting operational effectiveness and community trust
Represent the department at community events and public safety initiatives
Qualifications
Valid Florida law enforcement officer certification with active credentials (required)
Proven experience in law enforcement procedures and conflict resolution
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
Ability to thrive in a close-knit, community-oriented environment
