Job description
Police OfficerThe City of Eudora is accepting applications for a Police Officer. The position will perform intermediate protective service work enforcing laws, investigating criminal activity, ensuring safety of public, maintaining records and files, testifying in Court, preparing reports, responding to emergencies or after-hour requests, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Police Sergeant.Job Responsibilities (Include, But Are Not Limited To)Protects the life and property of citizens.On an assigned shift, operates patrol vehicle or specialized police equipment or walks to observe for violations of traffic laws, suspicious activities or persons and disturbances of law and order; maintains visible police presence throughout the community.Interviews victims and witnesses to obtain additional information regarding crime, accident, violation, etc.Investigates crimes; collects evidence; conducts searches.Responds to radio dispatches and answers calls and complaints; serves warrants, summons, etc.; completes arrest records; investigates licenses.Participates in illegal drug enforcement operations; conducts surveillance.Makes arrests and testifies in Court; prepares incident and various special reports.Enforces traffic laws; investigates accidents; issues traffic citations; provides first responder medical assistance.Provides police escorts, directs traffic; performs residential and commercial security checks.Participates in a variety of in-service and special training programs.Responds to and investigates domestic disputes; assists other law enforcement agencies when assigned.Reports dangerous or defective streets, sidewalks, traffic lights or other hazardous conditions.May be assigned collateral duty assignments such as School Resource Officer, investigations, etc.Conducts Department outreach and education programs to the public.Assists with maintaining equipment and vehicle cleanliness.Serves warrants, subpoenas and other legal documents.Provides animal control servicesProvides security at special events.Conducts building and residency checks.Minimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED with coursework in criminal justice or related field and moderate experience enforcing the law, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Law Enforcement Officer Certification, State of Kansas.Applicable position, department, organization, and professional training will be provided and must be completed upon hire and on an ongoing basis.Valid driver's license in the State of Kansas.Pay$23.64 - $28.36 per hour; commensurate with experienceBenefitsThe City of Eudora offers an extensive benefits package, including:Fully paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees14 Paid HolidaysVacation and Sick leave accruals with no waiting period on the useParticipation in KP&FSupplemental Retirement with KPERS 457 PlanLife Insurance: 1.5x annual salary; additional coverage available for self, spouse, and childrenPaid Long Term DisabilityOptional Short-Term Disability, Accident, and Cancer PlansEmployee Assistance ProgramTuition ReimbursementWellness Center Membership AvailablePosition open until filled.
