Job description
Police OfficeThe Fishers Police Department is accepting applications for the position of a lateral transfer patrol officer. This position is for Tier 1 certified officers only. This position aims to provide ongoing police services to the citizens within the city limits of Fishers. This position is very complex and requires the officer to make decisions, take action, and perform processes frequently performed under extreme stress. The officer responds to dispatch calls covering areas where an officer might be needed. The officer receives these dispatch calls in the police car over a two-way radio. Only one officer is in a car. The types of situations an officer may need to respond to are varied. In addition, the officer patrols the City of Fishers general area and performs traffic enforcement duties. This activity is of an ongoing nature and is what the officer will generally do when not responding to calls from the dispatcher. Furthermore, the officer fulfills the administrative and judicial functions of the position and is required to attend all training functions sponsored by the department as ordered by a superior officer to improve or maintain his/her skills in a particular area.Examples of duties include preparing reports, maintaining operational records, using computers, conducting investigations of criminal activity, collecting/searching for evidence at crime scenes, conducting surveillance operations, documenting crime scenes, testifying in court, interviewing witnesses and suspects, operating vehicles under emergency conditions, making arrests, serving warrants, handling hostile contacts, pursuing fleeing suspects, reporting to emergency scenes, performing duties related to traffic enforcement, operating firearms, answering media questions, interacting with the public, maintaining liaisons with other agencies, utilizing police radio, applying emergency first aid, maintaining personal appearance, communicating with other members of the department, attending training sessions, attending work, maintaining equipment, accepting supervision, and participating in department meetings.Minimum qualifications include possessing a valid Indiana driver's license, being a U.S. citizen, being at least 21 years of age and not having reached 40 years of age by date of appointment, being drug-free and having no convictions for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs, not having a conviction for operating a vehicle while intoxicated or with a blood alcohol content of .08% or above, having no felony convictions, having no convictions of any Class A misdemeanor, having no convictions for selected Class B misdemeanors, not having been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, not having been dishonorably discharged from the military, being a high school graduate or possessing a GED certificate, having no tattoos or brands on head, face, hands, or neck, and meeting or exceeding The Fishers Police Department's Physical Fitness standards.
