Police OfficerRichard Bland College is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Police Officer. This position plays a critical role in maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming campus environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The Police Officer supports the College's commitment to providing exceptional service through progressive law enforcement and public safety practices. The Police Officer provides law enforcement, security, and emergency response services throughout the College's statutory jurisdiction. Duties include enforcing state laws and College policies, conducting patrols, responding to calls for service, investigating incidents, providing emergency medical assistance, and fostering positive relationships with the campus community.Essential duties and responsibilities include: patrolling campus buildings, grounds, and parking areas by foot and vehicle to ensure safety and security; responding to calls for service, emergencies, and requests for assistance; investigating criminal activity, accidents, and other incidents occurring on College property; enforcing state laws, traffic regulations, parking regulations, and College policies; preparing and maintaining accurate reports, records, and documentation; providing emergency medical response and patient care within the scope of training until relieved by EMS personnel; participating in crime prevention programs and community outreach activities; assisting with public events, demonstrations, and other activities requiring public safety support; cooperating with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies as needed; responding to emergency call-backs and extended shifts when operational needs require.Successful candidates will demonstrate knowledge of Virginia criminal and traffic laws, effective investigative and problem-solving skills, strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to maintain positive working relationships with diverse populations, sound judgment during routine and emergency situations, proficiency with computers and standard software applications, and ability to meet and maintain required law enforcement certifications and physical fitness standards.Minimum qualifications include: high school diploma or GED required, current certification as a law enforcement officer by the Department of Criminal Justice Services, U.S. citizen, must be at least 21 years of age, possess a valid Virginia driver's license, no convictions of felonies and/or serious misdemeanors, and successfully pass all phases of the police officer selection process to include: extensive background investigation, MMPI, polygraph examination, interview, and a medical and drug screening by a physician.
