Join The Rosemount Police DepartmentThis position will remain open until filled, with the first review of applications on October 12th. Wages are reflective of the current 2027 wage scale but are subject to change after finalization of negotiations. Looking for a department where you can build a career, not just work a job? Our department currently has 35 sworn officers, and we are growing alongside our community. Officers experience a wide variety of calls for service and investigative opportunities while working in an environment that provides the tools, training, and support needed to succeed. Must be POST eligible by January 2027 to be considered A FACILITY BUILT FOR OUR OFFICERS Our new, state-of-the-art public safety facility was designed with our community and our employees in mind. Come grow with us.Essential DutiesOperates a patrol vehicle or walks on an assigned shift; observes for violations of traffic laws, suspicious activities or persons, and disturbances of law and order.Responds to a variety of emergency and non-emergency dispatched calls for service; makes arrests; completes arrest records and testifies in court; writes clear, concise reports in order to ensure legal procedures are followed; ensures court testimony is complete and accurate and evidence is collected and maintained with exact details.Prepares a variety of reports and records including, search warrants, detention reports, death scene investigative reports, accident reports, traffic and criminal citations, reports of investigations, and other mandated reports, per policy.Conducts primary and follow up investigation for criminal cases; develops leads and tips to investigate and solve crimes; conducts searches; collects and examines records and evidence; prepares and executes warrants and subpoenas.Completes various required and supplemental training.Participates in and creates community-orientated engagement events and presentations including education on crime prevention, safety, provision of general information, response to general complaints, etc.Operates and performs basic maintenance of all issued equipment to include vehicles, weapons, medical equipment, and essential electronic devices.Assists in collateral duties such as administrative, special response team, special operations, narcotics, K-9, investigations, animal control, school resource officer, evidence room custodian, or other duties as requested.QualificationsMinimum QualificationsAssociate's degree.Must meet all requirements of the Minnesota Board of Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) to obtain licensure upon hire which include, but are not limited to, employment and criminal background check, psychological evaluation, and medical/physical fitness examination.Minnesota Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (POST) licensure upon hire.Valid Driver's LicenseDesirable QualificationsBachelor's degree in law enforcement or related field.Fluency in a second language.Other SpecificationsMay require possession of, or ability to obtain, specific licenses and/or certifications depending on departmental assignment.Must meet and maintain all training and education requirements for position.Working Conditions Physical Requirements and Activity This work requires the regular exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of over 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions, frequently requires standing, pushing or pulling and lifting and occasionally requires walking, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and tasting or smelling. Sensory Requirements Work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound. Sensory Utilization Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities. Environmental Conditions Work regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to vibration, frequently requires exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to extreme heat (non-weather), exposure to the risk of electrical shock, working with explosives and wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).
