Power Tool OperatorJob Title: GrinderEmployment Type: Full-TimeLocation: Montgomery, AlabamaPay: $18.00 per hourSchedule: Monday – Thursday, 5:00 AM – 4:00 PMJob Summary: The Grinder is responsible for performing precision grinding, polishing, deburring, and finishing operations on metal components. This position involves operating grinding equipment, reading technical drawings, inspecting finished parts, and ensuring products meet required dimensional, geometric, and surface-finish specifications.Key Responsibilities:Set up and operate grinding and polishing machines, including surface, cylindrical, centerless, or CNC equipment.Select, mount, balance, and dress grinding wheels according to job specifications.Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, work orders, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) requirements.Measure and inspect parts using micrometers, calipers, gauges, comparators, and other precision instruments.Monitor grinding operations and adjust machine feeds, speeds, and coolant flow as needed.Grind, deburr, buff, polish, and finish metal components to meet required dimensions and surface-quality standards.Identify cracks, pits, dimensional errors, and other defects in materials or finished parts.Perform in-process and final quality inspections to ensure all parts meet specifications.Grind and sharpen cutting tools when required.Program or edit CNC grinding parameters when assigned to CNC equipment.Maintain equipment by completing routine cleaning, lubrication, adjustments, and basic part replacements.Keep the work area clean, organized, and free of safety hazards.Properly handle and store grinding wheels, tools, materials, and completed parts.Accurately complete production and inspection documentation.Follow all company policies, quality standards, and safety procedures.Communicate equipment issues, defective materials, or production concerns to the appropriate supervisor.Perform physical duties such as standing for extended periods, bending, reaching, lifting, and moving materials.Required Qualifications:MUST HAVE PREVIOUS GRINDING EXPERIENCEStrong mechanical aptitude and understanding of grinding equipment and procedures.Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, specifications, and work instructions.Ability to use micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other precision measurement instruments.Knowledge of abrasives, grinding-wheel types, and proper grinding techniques.Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.Ability to recognize defects and dimensional errors.Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.Ability to work safely and independently in a manufacturing environment.Ability to stand for extended periods and perform the physical duties required for the position.Must be able to pass all required pre-employment screenings.Preferred Qualifications:Previous experience operating grinding or polishing equipment in a manufacturing, fabrication, machining, or tool-and-die environment.Experience with surface, cylindrical, centerless, or CNC grinding machines.Previous experience reading GD&T specifications.Experience programming or editing CNC grinding-machine parameters.Experience with metal finishing, deburring, buffing, or sharpening cutting tools.Previous experience performing in-process and final quality inspections.Core Competencies: Mechanical aptitude, precision grinding, blueprint reading, quality inspection, measurement accuracy, attention to detail, equipment maintenance, problem-solving, time management, and safety awareness.
