Summary This is a Washington Army National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service Unit Technician position: POWERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS MECHANIC Location: Army Aviation Support Facility 1 Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington 98433 Army National Guard Units Appointment Type: Permanent, excepted service Advertised as: ENLISTED May be used to fill one or more vacancies. Ensure you read this announcement in its entirety, complete all application requirements, and your USA Jobs profile name is accurate Responsibilities A WG- , POWERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS MECHANIC: Responsible for the Ground Support Equipment maintenance program, inventory control, and the identification and scheduling of preventive maintenance requirements for ground support equipment. Troubleshoots deficiencies and repairs flight critical equipment including lifting devices, turbine powered generators, towing devices and auxiliary power units. Trouble-shoots, repairs; services; performs modifications on, and operates powered ground support equipment such as AC and DC power generators, air compressors, blowers, heaters, portable lighting units, deicers and non-powered equipment to include work stands, jacks, ramps, tow-bars, etc. Trouble-shoots equipment and determines the extent of repairs as well as the parts required. The authorized level of maintenance includes troubleshooting, tune-ups and adjustments of internal combustion and turbine engines, fuel controls, carburetors, clutch linkage, brakes and other mechanical links that utilize common hand tools and a variety of test equipment. Performs required preventive maintenance and servicing of equipment including repairing and replacing tires, lubrication, oil changes, replacing air, fuel and oil filters, checking fluid levels; and adjusting or replacing ignition parts, hoses, v-belts, and other items. Keeps equipment clean and free from dirt, oil, grease and corrosion. Periodically observes the operation of equipment to detect problems. Maintains records and equipment log books. Performs major system component overhaul/rebuild, repair/replacement and troubleshooting as needed, to include but not limited to, power-plant systems, brake systems, steering systems, hydraulic systems, diesel and gas systems, air systems, starting systems, ignition systems and electrical systems in addition to the following components, power-plant, brake, fuel, steering, hydraulic, air, starting, ignition and electrical system. Other duties as assigned.(temporary, minor, or incidental tasks) Requirements Conditions of Employment MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Military Grades: E3 - E6 Desired Military Assignments: 15 Series or 91B, 91L, 92F - Applicants need not be assigned to the position or possess the MOS to apply or be considered for selection. Selected applicant must be assigned to a compatible Military position and attain MOS within 1 year of appointment action. - May be required to successfully complete a trial period. - Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. - All soldiers, civilian employees, and contractor employees who drive Army-owned or leased vehicles must complete the Army Avoidance Course (AAC) training when they start working for the Army. Must have a valid Washington state and military driver's license. Must be able to obtain a Government Travel Card (GTC) and be able to attend all schools deemed necessary by the supervisor. - Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service. - Must maintain membership in the WA Army National Guard for continued employment. - Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position. - This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position. - Position requires ability to establish effective professional working relationships with coworkers and customers, contributing to a cooperative working environment and successful accomplishment of the mission. - May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours; overtime may be required. - The duties and responsibilities of your job may significantly impact the environment. You are responsible to maintain awareness of your environmental responsibilities as dictated by legal and regulatory requirements, your organization, and its changing mission. Qualifications GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates the knowledge of mechanical maintenance work; ability to read and use technical manuals, illustrations, diagrams and schematics, and skill in the use of equipment and hand tools used in troubleshooting, testing, and repairing equipment. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 18 months experience and/or appropriate training in functions such as inspection, maintenance, repair and modification of powered ground support equipment used in support of electronic systems or sub-systems. Experience or training removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing parts, components, and accessories. Experience which provided working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory applying to powered support equipment and systems; and skill to replace, fit, install, and make adjustments. Experience which provided working knowledge of the makeup and operation of the various individual systems maintained and their interrelationships. Experience reading and interpreting parts lists, manufactures' repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics. Education Education Requirements: High School Diploma or GED Degree Required:N/A Degree Required to qualify with Education Only (No Specialized Experience):N/A You must provide transcripts or other documentation to support your Educational claims. To receive credit for Education, you must provide documentation of proof that you meet the Education requirements for this position. Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience: Not Applicable. Additional Information -- Must have or be able to obtain government license to operate vehicles up to 1 ton in the performance of duties. -- Must qualify for the appropriate security clearance required. - Certain incentive(s) may be available pending funding and approval but are not guaranteed. - If you are a male applicant who was born after 12/31/1959 and are required to register under the Military Selective Service Act, the Defense Authorization Act of 1986 requires that you be registered or you are not eligible for appointment in this agency ( - Military Technicians are ineligible for enlistment, retention, and student loan repayment bonuses. Acceptance of a Technician position will terminate these incentives. - Military Technicians in the excepted service will wear the appropriate uniform while performing as a Technician. - Veteran's preference does not apply to National Guard Technician positions in accordance with Title 32 USC 709 (f). - May be required to successfully complete a trial period. REEMPLOYED ANNUITANT: In accordance with Section 9902(g) of Title 5, United States Code (U.S.C.), annuitants reemployed in the DoD will receive full annuity and salary upon appointment. They will not be eligible for retirement contributions, participation in the Thrift Savings Plan, or a supplemental or redetermined annuity for the reemployment period. Discontinued service retirement annuitants (i.e., retired in accordance with Section 8336(d)(1) or Section8414(b)(1)(A) of Title 5, U.S.C.) appointed to the DoD may elect to be subject to retirement provisions of the new appointment as appropriate.
