Job description

Practice Director / Program Lead

Bedford, NH / Boston Area (Remote)

Salary: 200-250k

The Opportunity

We partner with many of the leading medical device and healthcare technology companies to design, develop, and deliver complex, regulated products—from market requirements through FDA submission and launch.

We are recognized for our expertise in software, systems, connectivity, and product platform development, while also bringing the multidisciplinary capabilities required for complete product realization, including industrial design, human factors, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, verification and validation, and regulatory-ready development.

As medtech companies increasingly move toward connected, intelligent, and secure product platforms, they need partners who can help architect the foundation for future digital capabilities and AI-enabled innovation. We are uniquely positioned to help clients build that future.

We are seeking a Practice Director / Program Lead – Connected Systems—a senior, business-minded technical leader who can build trusted client relationships, lead large and complex product development efforts, and help grow strategic accounts. This role is ideal for someone with deep technical credibility, strong consulting instincts, and the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders ranging from engineering teams to VP, CTO, and C-suite leadership.

Why This Role Is Different

This is not a narrow delivery role, nor is it a purely internal leadership position. It offers the opportunity to operate at the intersection of engineering leadership, client partnership, and business growth.

You will have the opportunity to:

Build and strengthen our connected systems capabilities, including server-side software, data management, networking, and integration

Lead meaningful engagements with leading medtech companies

Shape software-intensive, systems-driven product and platform development efforts

Work across the full product development lifecycle, from requirements through FDA submission

Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, not just a delivery leader

Lead multidisciplinary teams spanning software, systems, electronics, industrial design, human factors, mechanical engineering, and V&V

Expand client relationships through strong delivery, insight, and trust

Influence technical practices, talent development, and long-term organizational growth

Role Overview

As Practice Director for Connected Systems, you will help strengthen internal capabilities, technical standards, talent development, and market reputation.

In parallel, as a Program Lead, you will serve as the senior technical leader and primary client partner for major development programs that are heavily software-focused. These efforts often involve connected product architectures, cybersecurity, data management, cloud technologies, and intelligent platform capabilities that are increasingly central to medtech innovation.

This role requires someone who combines strong technical judgment, cross-functional leadership, consulting skills, and business acumen. You should be equally comfortable discussing architecture with engineers, navigating program tradeoffs, and building confidence with senior client leaders.

Key Responsibilities

Program & Client Leadership

Serve as the senior technical and delivery leader for major client programs

Lead architecture, system design, and key engineering decisions across complex multidisciplinary programs

Partner with Program Managers on scope, budget, schedule, risk, and delivery

Build trusted relationships with stakeholders from engineering leadership through executive teams

Lead cross-functional teams across systems, software, cloud, cybersecurity, human factors, mechanical, electrical, and V&V disciplines

Ensure delivery of high-quality, compliant product designs suitable for regulated environments and FDA submission

Business Growth & Account Expansion

Identify client needs and help develop additional opportunities within existing accounts

Translate strong delivery into long-term partnerships and account growth

Contribute to account strategy, proposal development, and solution design

Balance technical excellence, client satisfaction, delivery discipline, and business growth

Practice Leadership

Serve as Practice Director for Connected Systems, including server-side software, networking, integration, and data management

Define and promote technical standards, methods, and best practices

Act as a subject matter expert on connected systems, privacy, and healthcare data regulations such as HIPAA

Support hiring, candidate evaluation, and team development efforts

Mentor engineers and emerging technical leaders

Help strengthen our reputation as a leader in software, systems, and regulated product development

What Success Looks Like

Clients view you as a trusted long-term advisor

Programs are delivered with technical excellence, predictability, and quality

Teams are engaged, high-performing, and continuously developing

Client accounts grow through trust, strong delivery, and sound judgment

The Connected Systems practice expands in capability, quality, and market reputation

Qualifications

Required

15+ years developing medical devices, diagnostics, or other regulated healthcare products with meaningful software and systems complexity

Director, Senior Director, or VP-level technical leadership experience

Proven success leading large cross-functional product development programs

Strong systems thinking, architectural judgment, and ability to navigate ambiguity

Experience leading software-intensive or platform-oriented development efforts

Strong executive presence and client-facing communication skills

Ability to combine technical leadership with sound business judgment

Experience building and growing strategic client relationships

Preferred

Engineering services, consulting, or outsourced product development experience

FDA Class II and/or Class III medical device experience

Background in connected devices, digital health, diagnostics, or software-enabled medical systems

Experience contributing to business development, account growth, or strategic account expansion

Passion for mentoring teams and building high‑performing organizations

Why Join Us

Partner with leading medtech companies on meaningful and technically complex challenges

Enjoy the variety and pace of a consulting environment while doing deep, impactful engineering work

Take ownership of clients, programs, technical direction, team development, and growth

Work alongside talented engineers and innovators dedicated to improving patient outcomes

Be part of an organization focused on accelerating innovation for patients, providers, and healthcare communities worldwide

Who This Role Is For

This role is ideal for someone who:

Has deep technical roots but thrives in client-facing environments

Enjoys leading complex software, systems, and product platform initiatives

Can move seamlessly between engineering details, program leadership, and executive discussions

Views consulting as a way to solve important problems and build trusted long-term partnerships

Wants meaningful ownership over delivery, team development, and business growth

Is excited about the future of connected, intelligent, and secure medtech platforms
