PGY-1 Preliminary General Surgery Position – Immediate Opening MedStar Health–Georgetown University General Surgery Residency Program, Baltimore
The MedStar Health–Georgetown University General Surgery Residency Program in Baltimore is seeking a qualified applicant for an immediate opening for a PGY-1 Preliminary General Surgery position.
The selected applicant will join our current PGY-1 class and enter a busy, supportive general surgery training program with broad exposure to the full spectrum of general surgery. Clinical training takes place across MedStar Health hospitals in the Baltimore region and provides residents with experience caring for a diverse patient population in both community and tertiary-care settings.
This is a one-year (12 months) preliminary PGY-1 position with an anticipated start as soon as credentialing and onboarding can be completed.
Position Highlights Residents participate in a comprehensive general surgery curriculum with experience in acute care surgery, general surgery, vascular surgery, surgical oncology, colorectal surgery, and other surgical subspecialties. Preliminary residents are fully integrated into the residency program and participate in the same clinical and educational activities as categorical PGY-1 residents.
Our program places a strong emphasis on progressive responsibility, operative experience, resident education, mentorship, and a supportive learning environment. Preliminary residents receive mentorship regarding their professional goals and next steps in surgical training.
Requirements Be a graduate of an LCME-accredited medical school, AOACOCA-accredited osteopathic medical school, or an international medical school meeting applicable eligibility requirements. Meet all requirements for appointment to graduate medical education at MedStar Health, including a passing score on USMLE Step1 and Step 2 CK, or COMLEX Level 1 and Level 2 CE. Be eligible to begin PGY-1 clinical training in the United States immediately upon completion of credentialing and onboarding. Demonstrate a strong commitment to surgical training, professionalism, teamwork, and patient care.
