Job Title: Principal Electrical Engineer

Reports to: Manager, Electrical Engineering

Department: Engineering

Work Model: Full-time, On-site – No Travel Required

Schedule: Monday – Friday 8am-5pm

Job Summary

This position is responsible for the design, development, and verification of assigned electrical wiring and printed circuit board (PCB) assemblies to include cables, plugs, military connectors, and associated pin-outs. In addition, the Principal Electrical Engineer will be expected to perform research and development of new processes or services with minimal oversight as well as conduct peer reviews, be a mentor for new hires, and lead medium-size project groups.

Essential Functions

Maintain extensive working knowledge of Crystal Group’s electrical design tools for efficient conversion of technical requirements into schematic diagrams, PCB layouts, and circuit card assembly drawings

Read and interpret electrical drawings and designs to ensure adherence to established specifications and standards

Assist the systems team in researching, designing, and evaluating systems and/or processes to meet customer requirements, ensure designs are producible and error free

Provide component-level review and in-depth electrical troubleshooting support for products in Manufacturing and Technical Services

Provide extensive troubleshooting support for products in Manufacturing and Technical Services

Review and provide template updates for electrical drawings and designs to ensure adherence to established specifications and standards, as assigned

Utilize engineering theory and simulation models to assess feasibility, sustainability, and operating condition effects

Direct or coordinate electrical manufacturing and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, or customer requirements

Compile data and write reports regarding existing or potential electrical engineering studies or projects

Design electrical test control apparatus or equipment or develop procedures for testing products

Perform detailed electrical calculations to compute and establish manufacturing standards or specifications

Evaluate electrical designs or prototypes for energy performance or environmental impact

Write electrical performance requirements for product development or engineering projects

Provide technical assistance for the Pilot Line build and testing of new products and systems

Maintain a high level of quality of designs with minimal errors

Perform electrical calculations to compute and establish manufacturing standards or specifications

Provide technical assistance for the Pilot Line build and testing of new products and systems

Train and mentor more junior members of the department

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Extensive understanding and theory of printed circuit design and layouts

Extensive understanding of the design for wire harnesses and cables

Substantial knowledge of computer hardware and systems integration

Experience working in a fast-paced environment

Extensive knowledge of electrical component industry standards

Expert level understanding of commonly practiced concepts related to electrical engineering theory

Current industry standards of soldering, wire assemblies, and base assemblies

Use of full range instrumentation including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and protocol analyzers

Multitask to meet several simultaneous project milestones up to and including completion of several projects

Work both independently and in a team environment with the ability to change priorities as needed

Build, troubleshoot, and debug circuit boards and assemblies including analog and digital electronics

Ability to use various software programs related to engineering theory (Altium Designer, Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD)Create, read, and compare technical data sheets

Able to effectively lead medium-large (4-7 member) multi-disciplinary teams on vaguely defined projects with little supervision, oversight, and coaching provided

Identify inter-departmental process deficiencies, propose viable solutions, and implement appropriate corrective action(s) with minimal managerial support provided

Required Qualifications

Must be a US Person (US Citizen, person granted US Permanent Resident Card or any individual who is granted status as a "protected person")

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science or related engineering field and 10+ years of electrical engineering experience

Preferred Qualifications

3+ years of PCB and schematic layout

3+ years of wire harness or cable design

10+ years of electrical component building experience

10+ years of CAD software related work

Extensive knowledge of computer equipment (PC, firewall, switch, data acquisition systems, UPS, server rack equipment, etc.)

Extensive knowledge of advanced testing equipment (bode plot generators, oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, hall-effect probes, etc.)

3+ year of leadership experience

Working Conditions

Work is primarily performed in an office environment. Occasional exposure to manufacturing floors and testing environments. May require lifting up to 25 lbs, standing for extended periods during product testing.
