Job description
Principal Solutions Architect - AWS & GenAI
Location: Washington, DC metro (Northern Virginia) or Dallas-Fort Worth, TX. Onsite, with some flexibility.
Type: Full-time, direct hire
The role
Our client, a large financial services company, is looking for a senior architect to own the technical design of its risk and compliance platforms. You'll be the go-to architect for a portfolio of cloud applications and data systems, setting direction, guiding engineers, and helping leadership make smart technology bets, including where GenAI fits.
This is a top-level individual contributor seat. You won't manage people; your impact comes from design decisions, influence, and the standards you set.
What your week looks like
Designing cloud-native systems end to end, from service boundaries and APIs to data flows and security controls.
Sitting with business and product leaders to understand what they need, then mapping out how to build it and in what order.
Coaching engineering teams through tough design calls, and rolling up your sleeves when a decision needs a prototype or a deep dive.
Writing and maintaining the reference architectures and patterns other teams build from.
Scouting new tools and approaches, especially in AI, and giving leadership a clear recommendation on what's worth adopting.
Weighing trade-offs between moving fast, building it right, and paying down legacy debt.
Working hand in hand with security, data, and enterprise architecture groups so everything holds up to audit and regulatory scrutiny.
Presenting architecture choices to senior executives in plain language.
You're a fit if you have
A long career in software engineering (typically 10+ years), with many of those spent as an architect or technical lead.
Hands-on depth in Java or Python, event streaming such as Kafka, containers and Kubernetes, and a modern front-end framework like Angular.
Strong command of microservices, API design, integration patterns, micro-frontends, and twelve-factor principles.
Real production systems you've designed on AWS; Azure or GCP experience also counts.
Experience shipping GenAI or machine learning solutions, not just prototypes.
A solid grip on CI/CD, DevOps, and Agile delivery.
Architecture experience in a regulated industry such as banking, insurance, or healthcare.
A bachelor's or master's in computer science, engineering, or similar.
The ability to earn trust with executives and engineers alike.
Nice to have
You've led architecture through a large modernization or transformation program.
You hold an advanced cloud certification, such as AWS Solutions Architect - Professional.
