nSummary:
nA Respiratory Therapist Level 2 (RT2) is a member of the healthcare team who provides expertise in managing patients of all ages who have respiratory disease or acute conditions impacting their ability to breath. The RT2 provides respiratory care to patients in the general, critical care and emergency room environments. The RT2 position is part of an internal HUP clinical advancement program and requires a minimum of one year of experience after graduation from an accredited respiratory care program.
nResponsibilities:
nPerform physical assessment of a patient's pulmonary status and make recommendations for appropriate respiratory care
nAdminister oxygen via various standard delivery devices as well as specialized heated high flow devices and a hyperbaric chamber
nAdminister aerosolized medications via nebulizer, MDI, DPI or other devices
nAdminister prescribed inhaled nitric oxide or aerosolized prostacyclin
nEvaluate and maintain artificial airways of various sizes
nSet up, adjust, maintain, and clean various types and brands of mechanical ventilators
nPerform advanced procedures on patients with severe hypoxemia including prone positioning, lung recruitment maneuvers and more
nSet up, adjust, maintain, and clean various types and brands of non-invasive BiPAP & CPAP devices
nTransport critically ill patients on respiratory modalities
nRespond to hospital emergencies including rapid response, code call, etc..
nUtilize approved RT protocols
nPerform ABG & other diagnostic tests to evaluate the extent of disease or effectiveness of treatment
nPerform EKG testing, phlebotomy, IV insertion and other non-traditional roles and/or responsibilities based on department and/or location need
nDocument patient care activities and enter charges in current electronic data system
nComplete annual competencies and continuing education as determined by hospital policy, credential and state licensing requirements
nMaintain active RT credential(s) and PA state RT license
nCredentials:
nnnRespiratory Therapist (Required)
n
nnState of Pennsylvania Respiratory Care License required. Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). State of PA license and all NBRC credentials are to be active and maintained per the rules and regulations of the State of PA and the NBRC continuing competency requirements

nnAdvanced Cardiac Life Support from American Heart Association
n
nnACLS (if Critical Care-primary RT) recommended and NRP (ICN staff) certification required within 6 months of hire (NRP requirement effective 12/31/15)

n nEducation or Equivalent Experience:
nnnAssociate of Arts or Science (Required)
n
nnEducation Specialization: Graduate of Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) accredited Respiratory Care program.
n
nnEquivalent Experience: 1+ years minimum clinical experience

nnBachelor of Arts or Science (Preferred)
