Probation and Parole Officer

An ideal candidate should possess the following competencies:

Minimum qualifications include:
Three years of experience in corrections or law enforcement; OR
Three years of continuous active military duty (all Military Occupational Specialties apply); OR
Six years of full-time experience in any field; OR
A bachelor's degree.
Experience substitution is available. Necessary special requirements include:
Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.
Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.
Job duties include:
Supervising felony and misdemeanor offenders through counseling, case management, and referrals to community resources that support rehabilitation and social adjustment.
Enforcing conditions of probation and parole by monitoring compliance, managing violations, and participating in all stages of the violation process.
Conducting criminal justice investigations and preparing reports and recommendations for courts, parole and pardon boards, and other criminal justice decision makers.
Conducting arrests, transporting violators, and participating in probable cause, revocation, and disciplinary hearings.
Investigating and managing restitution, supervision fees, fines, court costs, and other criminal justice-related financial obligations.
Coordinating offender placement in drug treatment, vocational rehabilitation, mental health, and other support programs while providing crisis intervention and emergency assistance resources.
Administering drug testing, supervising community service activities, and ensuring compliance with American Correctional Association (ACA) standards and agency policies.
Assisting with jail and contract compliance audits for facilities and Community Rehabilitation Centers (CRCs), including applying defensive tactics and maintaining institutional safety and security.
This position may be filled as a Probation and Parole Officer 1, 2, or 3, depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant.
Compensation: Special Entrance Rates are available for Probation and Parole Officers 1, 2, and 3.
