Job description
Production BakerThe Production Baker prepares high-quality baked goods that support Black Cap's commitment to exceptional food, consistency, and customer experience. Working collaboratively with the bakery team, this role executes daily production, maintains food safety standards, and contributes to a positive, fast-paced kitchen environment. This position offers ample opportunities for learning and development. Compensation for this position is $23-$24.50/hour (=$20-$21.50/hr base rate + $3/hr in share tips & fees).This is a part-time position, scheduled 16-24 hours/week at our Waterbury location. The schedule requires a 4:30 AM start time on Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays; candidates available on both Saturdays and Sundays are preferred. Full-time applicants will also be considered.Job ResponsibilitiesAssist in the execution of bakery and food offerings for all Black Cap locationsExecute and scale regular production of croissants and other baked goods including but not limited to sweet breads, cookies, muffins, and sconesKeep high standards of food safety and sanitation by following weekly and daily cleaning listsAssist with critical communications between all Black Cap locationsUpdate inventories for in house reference: croissant, dry case, cold case, top of case, cookies, bars, and all baked goodsReceive and put away deliveries of supplies and verify that correct items and quantities have been deliveredSupport the creation of new menu items based on customers' preferences and feedbackProduce the weekly menu as directed by the Head BakerCreate corresponding labels and recorded recipes when appropriateReport all equipment and maintenance problems to the Head Baker and Operations DirectorPerform daily and weekly cleaning lists to maintain high cleanliness and sanitation standardsRequirementsRequired to work on Sundays, Mondays, and TuesdaysRequired to start work at 4:30AM Full-time: Four 10-hour shiftsPart-time: Three 8-hour shiftsRequired to work at least one weekend day, both weekend days preferredWork primarily in one location (Waterbury) but have availability and reliable transportation to work in the other location as neededFollow processes and procedures recorded in Employee HandbookTake direction from managers and assist where neededMaintain regular and reliable attendanceReport to work in proper uniform, abiding by the dress code: Black Cap T-ShirtHair pulled back and covered with a hat, headband, or bandanaClosed-toed shoesPants (no sweatpants)Hands must be free of jewelry and nail polishNails must be kept short and cleanPhysical Job RequirementsMust be able to lift 50 lbs up and down the stairs multiple times per dayMust be able to lift 50 lbs off the ground from a squatting positionMust be able to frequently squat, bend at the waist, and twist from the waist while carrying heavy, large objects up to 50 lbsMust be able to stand on your feet for up to 8 hours at a timeRequired Skills & ExperiencePrior bakery experience preferredServeSafe Food Handler Safety Certification will be provided by Black Cap after hireMust have strong skills in: Communication, attention to detail/consistency, sense of urgency, prioritization, professionalism, adaptabilityMust be timely and attentive to workMust have a growth mindset and respond constructively to feedbackBlack Out DatesFoliage season (September 20th- October 20th)December holiday season (December 26th – January 2nd)Presidents' Day weekMartin Luther King weekendVarious summer holidays/events as deemed necessary by managementWhat We OfferPaid Time Off (PTO) and paid sick timeHealth and vision insurance options for full-time employeesInvest EAP (Employee Assistance Program) for employees and household membersPaid breaks and shift mealFree coffee drinks during shiftsEmployee discounts on food, beverages, and Black Cap merchandiseHoliday pay on select holidaysPaid bereavement leavePaid childbirth recovery leave for FT employees after 1 year of employmentWhy Black Cap?At Black Cap, we work hard to build a positive workplace where people support each other and take pride in what they do.
