Job description

Production Bagger LeadMajor duties of the Production Bagger Lead are to ensure that the product being packaged meets all packaging quality specifications on the finished product and maintains high levels of product and packaging quality. This includes but is not limited to: inspecting all packaging seals, code dates, proper weights per bag, and correct palletization of product. Checks and verifies both at the start of the shift and during product changes, all bags, and date code stickers, etc. are correct for the product. This position requires operating equipment on the product line, and minor mechanical repairs, as necessary.Position duties and responsibilities include: loading material and products into package processing equipment; examining and inspecting containers, materials, and products to ensure the product being packaged is within specifications; working with QA and Flake Operators to produce a quality, cost-effective product; measuring, weighing, and counting products and materials; placing product or materials into containers using hands, equipment, or fill containers; removing defective products or materials; training and directing (with limitations) the activities of Baggers and Inspection Table personnel; checking Hyster oil levels and turning Hyster gas on; ensuring Hyster is not left unattended while the gas is on; checking scales and bag weights at the beginning of and throughout the shift; verifying at least three bags per pallet and recording on the Shift Report and Packaging Log Book; communicating with other shifts or departments about possible problems, product needing blended, line changes, etc.; recording all packaging information on packaging reports and all changes or problems in the packaging log book; being responsible for housekeeping and general cleanliness and organization of the packaging areas; checking at the start of the shift and during product changes that the bag, date code, stickers/labels, etc. are correct for the product being packaged; installing clean magnets at the shift change, cleaning magnets during the shift as needed; recording all material collected on the Shift Report and in the packaging log book; checking for mis-sealed bags; ensuring bags are stacked neatly and without potential hazards on pallets; transporting all good quality product to the warehouse, stacking pallets/product neatly in straight rows - ensuring row sheets and pallet tickets are on the pallet and easily read; replacing damaged bags prior to transporting to the warehouse; cleaning any spills; identifying and completing minor mechanical repairs as needed; monitoring the aspirator area for possible plug-ups, bottle necks, or other problems; completing check-out lists and necessary reports on time; counting and recording rejected items and finished items that are ready for shipping/storage; adhering to and practicing safety policies at all times; keeping Manager informed of progress and/or problems; and completing other duties as necessary.Knowledge and skills include: knowledge of production and packaging equipment, policies, and procedures to ensure the safety of product and personnel; strong mechanical aptitude; ability to complete paperwork and reports; basic math skills needed; good communication skills, both written and oral; knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words; good time management skills; ability to monitor self and processes to make improvements or take corrective action; ability to work well with all levels of staff; safety and quality conscious.Education must be of such level as to allow for the accurate reading, writing, calculation and communication of the required materials and instructions to complete the job responsibilities. High school diploma/equivalent or higher education preferred.Physical requirements include: ability to stand, bend, sit or move repetitively for up to 12 hours; ability to lift on a regular basis up to 66 lbs without assistance and up to 100 lbs with assistance; ability to tolerate dust or chemicals; ability to work safely around moving parts and equipment; bending, stretching, lifting, reaching, climbing, crawling, and fingering required; ability to see and hear sufficiently to operate equipment safely in an environment with high levels of noise and low-lit areas; quick reaction time, good hand/eye coordination, ability to perceive and judge distances, and see details at close range; willingness to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed; ability to work in a manufacturing and general warehouse environment with exposure to extreme hot or cold, steam, dust, wet/humid conditions, loud noises, low lit areas, and cramped or crowded conditions.Working conditions include: normal plant/manufacturing/warehouse environment. Hours of operation are 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Must be available for all days and all hours. Position is very physical/hands on. Will be exposed to high levels of noise, heat, cold, dust, and wet and humid conditions, and all other environmental factors normally attributed to a packaging or warehouse environment.Disclaimer: The purpose of this Job Description is to document the major aspects of this position.
