The Opportunity

The Production Planner develops and manages production schedules that align customer delivery expectations with available materials, labor, and work center capacity. Using the ERP system, this position evaluates current and future production needs, adjusts schedules as priorities change, and partners with Production, Supply Chain, Engineering, and Customer Care to resolve constraints and support on-time delivery. The Production Planner also coordinates engineering changes and material substitutions, maintains accurate planning data, and supports inventory management to minimize excess and obsolete materials. This role requires sound judgement, strong attention to detail, and proactive communication to keep production activities aligned with business and customer needs.

Responsibilities

Develops and maintains production schedules for all production work centers using the ERP system, aligning the master production schedule with customer delivery expectations, available capacity, and material availability.

Analyzes work center and labor capacity daily to identify constraints, support efficient resource utilization, and plan for current and future production needs.

Adjust production schedules in collaboration with Production Management and Supply Chain to address engineering changes, labor or material shortages, backlogs, and other disruptions.

Monitors order progress against customer promise dates and communicate order status, estimated completion dates, and potential delays to Customer Care.

Coordinates with Production Managers and production leads to sequence shop orders and operations across work centers and production lines.

Coordinates production planning activities for Engineering Change Orders, including evaluating material usage, determining implementation timing, and updating affected shop orders.

Partners with Production and Supply Chain to minimize excess and obsolete inventory resulting from these changes.

Proactively communicates production constraints, changing priorities, and resource needs to affected departments and collaborates on solutions.

Coordinates and implements approved material substitutions with Supply Chain and Inventory to maintain accurate shop orders and inventory records.

Review safety stock levels, minimum order quantities, and other part planning parameters and recommend updates to support production requirements and inventory objectives.

Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested or required.

Requirements

Post High School education, preferably in Operations Management, Supply Chain, Business, or similar field.

2+ years’ experience in a production scheduling or planning in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Strong math and analytics skills

Ability to think critically

Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles

Knowledge of the day-to-day operations of a manufacturing facility

Problem solver, including understanding basic root cause methods
