Job description

Production SupervisorAll jobs at Southern Champion Tray (SCT) require Team members to act in accordance with the shared Core Values and Operating principles of the company as they perform specific job functions. Maintains effective rapport and demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others by delegating responsibilities. In collaboration with Department Managers, controls and improves efficiencies, minimize labor overtime, downtime and repair expenses.Supervises overall safety, quality, productivity, and team member relations to achieve positive results across the siteDemonstrates a commitment to Workplace and Product Safety and enforces plant safety regulations with team members ensuring compliance with company policies and proceduresSupports production challenges by using root cause analysis and identifying sustainable solutionsPromotes, educates, and enforces quality standards ensuring compliance to SCT's Quality ProgramMaintains and oversees timecards, vacation requests and staffing needs while partnering with Department Manager on scheduling and overtime needsActively engages and collaborates with fellow Production Supervisors to ensure an effective transition between shifts while actively informing Site Superintendent with regular updates as neededPartners with Department Manager to obtain correct resources to train new team members, including temporary staff members, ensuring they have the tools, training, and proper resources to effectively perform the jobObserves team member relations and partners with team members to resolve work issues; partners with Department Manager and the People Team regarding any disciplinary action, investigations or any other people needsClearly, accurately, and effectively cascades and disseminates company information with individuals at all levels within the organization ensuring understanding and commitment; escalates concerns to Production Manager or the People Team as neededCompletes and maintains all necessary production records and documentationContinuously provides feedback to team members by coaching and offering regular recognition and appreciationManages staffing schedule and vacation requests to ensure operation is setup to fulfill production scheduleProvides and ensures completion of annual performance reviews to team membersOpens and closes plant each week ensuring all site security measures are followedAdapts to Continuous Improvement and follows new procedures and innovations, which would add to the efficiency and safety of the operationMonitors and adapts production activities to eliminate waste, ensure adherence to production and shipping schedule, and keeps downtime to a minimumSupervises the maintenance of a clean work environment in accordance with Food Safety and 5S systemsFollows all safety related policies, rules, regulations, technical instructions, and guidelines. Uses situational awareness and identify unsafe behaviors and conditions; consistently wears appropriate PPE for the task at hand within the assigned area. Attend training and meetings as defined by management.Projects positive company image by interacting with fellow Team Members, customers and management in a cooperative, supportive and courteous manner; displays professional attitude; complies with company dress codePerforms work according to supervisor's directives when requestedWears safety protection as required by company and/or customerOperates forklift when necessaryPerforms other duties as assignedDirectly supervises six (6) to fifty (50) production team members to include but not limited to non-supervisor production Team Members at one designated location and/or several departments. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of designated unit(s). Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training Team Members; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining Team Members; addressing complaints and resolving issues in compliance with any applicable employment law guidelines and upon consultation with the Vice President of Operations, Plant Manager, Production Manager, Chief People Officer, Regional People Experience Manager, and/or People Business Partner if necessary.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Minimum five (5) years of progressive experience in a manufacturing environment including a minimum of two (2) years serving in a leadership capacityExperience in corrugated, paper, or folding carton industry preferredBachelor's degree preferred, will consider experience in lieu of degreeProficient in MS Office applications - Word, Outlook, ExcelWorking knowledge of large-scale ERP systems preferredKnowledge of occupational safety best practices and procedures preferredExperience safely operating a forklift a plusExcellent leadership and motivational skillsStrong interpersonal and communication (both verbal and written) skills and ability to effectively deliver, reinforce consistent messages and influence others via communication to get desired results at all levels of the organizationExcellent planning, organizational, time-management and prioritization skillsAbility to work satisfactorily as a team member and communicate with all levels within the companyAbility to work in a fast-paced environment minimizing downtime and maximizing productionAbility to manage a shifting production schedule while maintaining tight delivery deadlinesKeen business acumen combined with strong fiscal awareness and understanding as it relates to cost control/reduction, particularly in response to immediate and critical operational decisionsAbility to Incorporate continuous improvement processes and best practicesAbility to handle sudden changes in project/priority and multiple tasks simultaneously in a positive fashionAbility to set, adjust and change daily prioritiesAbility to manage conflict and resolve issues in the most positive fashion for all parties concernedAbility to identify problems or potential problems at both a strategic and functional level and/or make or recommend decisions to resolve the sameWillingness to accept responsibility and take on new challengesAbility to exercise discretion and independent judgment on a customary and regular basisAdept at problem solvingAbility to select and effectively use personal protective equipment according to the specific hazard or hazards in accordance with company and/or department requirementsMust complete and maintain forklift operation certification and be able to safely operate a forklift if necessaryMust be eighteen (18) years of age or olderMust successfully complete pre-employment drug screen, physical and background checkMust be dependableWillingness to work any shift when neededMust always be on callFlexibility to work additional hours when requiredValid driver's licenseAbility to safely operate a motor vehicleAbility to provide transportation to and from other Chattanooga locations when requiredOccasional travel may be requiredAbility to read, understand, and communicate to others the meaning of complex documents including legal documents, letters, etc. and write legibly in English.2nd Shift (5 Day / 8 Hour) - Monday - Friday 2:25pm to 10:30pm Downtown Plant - 220 Compress Street, Chattanooga, TN 37405
